Linda Jones, mum of murdered schoolgirl Danielle, opened up on Loose Women today about her daughter's disappearance
Danielle Jones was just 15-years-old when she was reported missing by her family on 18 June 2001.
In a cruel and shocking twist, it was discovered that she had been murdered by none other than her own uncle, Stuart Campbell.
In the 16 years since her death, Campbell has never disclosed the location of Danielle's body and police have not been able to trace it, leaving her parents, Linda and Anthony, without any closure.
Speaking on Loose Women today, Linda admitted that the worst thing was not having any closure from her daughter's death, and that Campbell still had "control" over her daughter because he won't confess where he put her body.
Describing the day Danielle disappeared, Linda explained that she'd had a phone call from her school saying that Danielle had not turned up, and despite thinking it was out of character, she put it down to the possibility that Danielle had bunked off school.
After ringing the police, the family searched the area around their house and the local shopping centre in which Danielle worked, but she said it started to sink in towards the end of the day that "something was amiss".
Christine asked at what point did the family start to suspect the person behind it, and Linda admitted that it was the second week when they began to realise who was responsible.
She said: "It was his behaviour. The police quite early on realised that he was involved. He was the only one who was supposedly close that wasn't out looking.
"He came round the next week and handed me a magazine saying that he thought I would be interested in it. No I'm not interested - I want to find my daughter.
"He was just not doing anything that everybody else was doing."
Linda staunchly admitted that she had not spoken to Campbell since his arrest, and didn't plan to.
Janet Street-Porter asked whether she would consider it as he might reveal the info to her, but Linda said: "I don't think so. I think at the moment, as far as he's concerned, he's still in control of the situation."
Stacey Solomon asked: "Is there any closure when you cannot put your child to rest?" adding whether Linda had any thoughts that Danielle might still be alive.
Linda answered: "No, I think we're quite certain that she is dead because the evidence was overwhelming.
"There is no closure. We've got nowhere to go - we go to the local school because they created a memorial garden, but she's not there.
"In my mind, between when you lose someone and you have a funeral, you're in limbo."
Linda voice broke as she said: "Well, we've had that for 16 years. That's how I feel."
The Jones family had even more heartbreak earlier this year, as new information came in to police that may have indicated where Danielle's body was.
They were given a glimmer of hope, as it wasn't far away from Campbell's house, but tragically it came to nothing.
Linda said: "I thought it was hopeful. I don't think Tony was quite as convinced but I was really hopeful."
She added that she wanted to be able to bring Danielle home, saying: "He's still in control of her.
"Over the years, we've come to accept what's happened. It's just not knowing where she is. When we go on holiday and we fly on a plane, I look out of the window and think that I could be looking at where she is. And that's just unbearable."
