Julie Paris lets her four children, including her 8-year-old daughter Mollie, write to prisoners in America - even those who have been convicted of serious crimes such as murder.

Paris has been writing to prisoners herself for over a decade, and believes that the men need the letters in their lives.

'It happened when they were young a lot of them. They need it. Their families have disowned them' says Julie.

'I was in care when I was young and I would have been really grateful for the letter.'

But despite the mum of four being laid-back about her children's pen pals, she adds that she would never let them write to someone convicted of sex crimes, and she makes sure they only write to American prisoners because it's 'safer.'

Mollie will even be taking a trip to visit some of the men she has been writing to, with Julie saying the little girl is 'okay with it. I wouldn't take her if she was unsure.'

But Twitter users were less than impressed with Paris's parenting methods, saying she is putting them in a 'vulnerable' position and exposing them to things they shouldn't be.
