Kevin Park, 27, savagely attacked the innocent two year old while she was in his care in April this year.

Park had been dating Anne Marie White, 22, for five months when she left her daughter, Madison in his care.

Anne Marie had trusted Park so implicitly at the time that shortly after she died she defended him on her Facebook page, saying he would “never hurt” Madison.

Madison was found with 65 separate injuries. Park punched and stamped on the defenceless child and is believed to have beaten her mercilessly with a broken pool cue during the horrific assault.

She later died in hospital of her injuries, including a fractured skill.

It later emerged that Park had 38 previous convictions which he’d managed to hide from Anne Marie.

At the sentencing at the High Court in Glasgow, judge Michael O’Grady called Park’s actions “wicked”.

He added: “It is the misfortune of those of us who practise in these courts to hear of, day after day, the dreadful things human beings can do, one to another. But even by those awful standards what you have done is wicked beyond all imagining.

“A child in your care looked to you for comfort, protection and probably even love. And instead, for some reason quite beyond comprehension, you inflicted upon her a callous, cruel and terrifying death.”

Anne Marie sobbed as verdict was delivered. On the night of Madison’s murder, she had gone to a birthday party and left her child “happy, healthy and jumping on a bed.”

Madison’s father spoke earlier today, telling the Daily Record, “They [doctors] tried to comfort me and said "she’s still here". But it was a horrible scene to see. I just can’t get that image out of my head.

“I said, ‘Right darling, Daddy will see you when he sees you’. I whispered it into her ear.”

Following the verdict, a statement from the family read: “This has been a very hard and difficult time for the family and friends of Madison. We are pleased that justice has been served.”
