Little Roman used his mum's iPhone to call the emergency services

A four-year-old boy's quick thinking – and ability to use his mum's iPhone – made sure his unconscious parent got the help she needed in time.

Roman, whose surname hasn't been revealed, used his mum's fingerprint to unlock her phone when she became unconscious, before telling Siri to call the emergency services.

He was at home with his mum and two siblings in Kenley, Croydon, when the incident happened.

The call handler asked Roman to "get mummy", to which he responded, "we can't, she's dead".

When the operator asked what he meant, he said she was "closing her eyes and not breathing".

Roman was then asked for his address, which he gave incorrectly at first, but the operator worked out where he was when they asked if he was in Kenley.

An ambulance was then sent to the house within thirteen minutes, and paramedics forced their way into the house to find Roman, his twin brother and another younger brother, sat with their unconscious mum.

She was taken to hospital after regaining consciousness at home, and a spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police praised Roman's actions.

"Hearing this call brings home the importance of teaching your young child their home address and how to call police or emergency services in an emergency situation," said Chief Superintendent Ade Adelekan.

"If you do nothing else today, then I'd implore any parents of young children to sit down with them and make sure they know what to do in this kind of situation and that they know how to contact police or other emergency services in an emergency.

"As this case demonstrates so poignantly, it could really be the difference between life and death. It's an amazing story and thanks to his quick thinking and by asking 'Siri' for help, this little boy saved his mum's life and it means she is still here and can be extremely proud of him and his brothers."
