Lou Burns, who is married to Benidorm actor Nicholas Burns, was in Claridge’s, an elite Mayfair hotel, when her 12-week-old baby daughter needed feeding.
Thinking nothing of it, Mrs Burns began feeding baby Isadora discretely with her top rolled up.
However, she was then told by a staff member that she should use a huge napkin to cover both her and the baby so they could prevent ‘causing offence’ to other customers.
The mother-of-three said she felt so humiliated by the experience that she cried afterwards.
‘Breastfeeding is natural and we’re told it’s best for the baby. It’s a bit silly to say that people would be offended by it,’ she told the Mail.
Visibly upset after being asked to cover up, Lou asked to see the manager, who just confirmed the waiter’s earlier assertion that breastfeeders must be covered.
‘I just told them i was so offended, and so humiliated.’
‘You couldn’t see anything while I was feeding, because I had a vest underneath my jumper. No-one complained.’
Lou posted details of the incident online, saying she will never go back to the five star establishment.
