Collette Moreno, 26, was being driven to the event by her best friend when the pair were hit by an oncoming vehicle. The driver had been attempting to overtake a truck when they had the crash.

Moreno's fiancé, Jesse Acrobasso, revealed that the woman's five-year-old son still doesn't understand what's happened to his mum.

'He doesn't quite understand everything just yet' the devastated partner told KCTV. 'I know it's going to take time.'

Moreno was being driven by Ashley Theobald on Missouri Highway 5 on their way to a weekend of partying when they crashed. The bride had taken an excited selfie of her and her friend on the road, just minutes before tragedy struck.

Theobald told KCTV that her friend had started suffering an asthma attack as a result of a truck's fumes they were behind, so she had decided to overtake the vehicle.

Sadly, both passenger and driver failed to see a hidden hill, and as they overtook the truck a car came over the crest of it, striking the side of their vehicle.

Theobald also described how her friend was conscious immediately after the crash, and was responding to her by nodding before emergency services arrived.

'I didn't know it was as bad as it was because she wasn't physically super beaten-up.'

Three hours later, Moreno died of her injuries.
