Mallory Smothers, a mother from Arkansas, America, shared a post on Facebook about her incredible experience of breastfeeding and, not surprisingly, the moving post has gone viral.

Smothers explained how, last Thursday (February 18), she expressed her breast milk to feed her little one before bed, as she usually does, and then continued to feed her throughout the night as they woke.

But over the evening, the worried mum noticed that her tot had become congested, sneezy and unhappy, as all the typical colds signs of contracting a cold began to show.

But the new mum told in amazement how, when she woke to feed her little girl the following morning, her breast milk had changed dramatically as she compared it to a previous portion of expressed milk.

In awe of her own body’s response to her child’s illness, the mother posted this message on Facebook:

“This is just cuckoo awesome – I read an article from medical journal not too long ago about Mom’s milk changes the tailor a baby’s need, in more ways that just calorie intake.

“It is believed that the mammary gland receptors interpret the “baby spit backwash” for bacteria and viruses, and, if they detected something amiss (i.e. the baby is sick or fighting off an infection), Mom’s body will actually change the Milk’s immunological composition by producing customized antibodies.”

And then see went in to explain her own experience, saying:

“I pumped the milk on the left Thursday night before we laid down for bed, I nurse Baby every 2 hours or so overnight and don’t pump until we get up for the day. I noticed in the wee hours of Friday morning… she was congested, irritable and sneezing… Probably a cold, right?”

“When we got up Friday morning, I pumped, just as we always do. What I pumped is on the right side of the photo.

“I didn’t noticed the difference until today, but look at how much more the milk I produced on Friday resembles colostrum (the super milk full of antibodies and leukocytes you make during the first few days after birth) and this comes after nursing the baby with a cold all night long…

“Pretty awesome huh?

“The human body never ceases to amaze me.”

Wow – we’re pretty amazed too.
