Tiger on loose near Disneyland Paris

Police and firefighters are desperately hunting for a tiger on the loose near Paris

A picture of the escaped tiger was snapped in by a frightened bystander on the outskirts of the French capital, just 2.5 miles away from Disneyland Paris.

The image was posted by the French digital channel iTele on its Twitter profile.

The caption says the tiger was seen in the Seine-et-Marne area.

No more details have been released yet about where in the department the tiger was seen.

"We have been running after it since this morning, police officers are trying to intercept it," a police source said.

"My wife saw it this morning," Jean-Baptiste Berdeaux, who manages the Intermarche supermarket in the town of Montevrain, told the AFP news agency.

"She didn't get out of the car and called me to say 'I think I saw a lynx'," he said.

Firefighters armed with paralysing darts were mobilised for the search, Sky News has reported.

They ground teams are being supported by a helicopter overhead, in a bid to track the tiger down.
