Five-year-old Ivan was diagnosed with the tumour last year and had it removed in August.

A wealthy Russian businessman paid for the treatment at the private wing of Great Ormond Street Hospital, central London, after his devastated parents Natalya Kochetova and Alexei Dubovoi advertised in a local newspaper begging for financial help.

But although Ivan is cancer free, attempts to reconstruct his face have failed. His benefactor is now unable to fund any further operations, leaving the youngster, from Russia, in turmoil.

Courageous Ivan has had a tracheostomy tube fitted in his throat and a feeding tube attached to his stomach.

Despite successfully removing the cancer, Ivan suffered difficulties after the operation; his wound turned septic and a skin graft from his leg to his face was unsuccessful.

The blond tot has lost the ability to speak, but has learnt sign language and remains remarkably upbeat.

He insists on being carried to the lifts to wave goodbye to visitors and loves playing with a sparkly rubber ball.

Ivan's distraught parents are now hoping to raise money for him to have further reconstructive surgery.
