Astronaut tweets ‘my saddest photo yet:’ showing satellite view of bombs going off in Gaza

An astronaut on board the International Space Station has tweeted a satellite view of the troubled regions in Israel and Palestine, showing bombs as they land.

The 38-year-old German, who is working 200 miles above the earth, wrote that the picture was his 'saddest photo yet,' adding that he could 'actually see explosions and rockets flying over Gaza and Israel.'

In the past two weeks alone over 800 Palestinians and 34 Israelis have been killed in the fighting, with the UN saying on Wednesday that that they will launch an inquiry into violations that may have been committed during Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

On Thursday, a U.N. Shelter in Gaza was bombed, with Israel claiming Hamas militants were firing rockets from the area.

The attack claimed the lives of 16 and injured 200.

Support for Israel's cause has lessened since news of several attacks on schools and hospitals have come to light in recent days, with even former ally Turkey condemning their actions.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday they would push for Israel to be tried in a criminal court if it kept up its assault on Gaza, and accused the state of 'surpassing Hitler in barbarism' with its Gaza offensive.

However the U.N Secretary General said the circumstances surrounding the latest attack were 'still unclear,' but it was true that 'many have been killed - including women and children, as well as U.N. staff.'

The international community has called on both sides to agree to a ceasefire, and to enter into a conversation to end the bloodshed.
