For $0.99 this helpful piece of technology will select the ‘target’ from your friends list, and remove any pictures and comments involving the intruding creature on your profile, timeline, status updates and wall posts.

The evidence will be kept in a ‘safe folder’ in case you should reunite or have a stalker moment.

However, you must be Facebook friends with your ex for this to work- you can always delete him afterwards.

The app's creators got inspiration through their heartbroken friend

Explaining her motivation behind the invention, co-creator Clara de Soto, revealed:

‘We have one friend, love her to death, she's been very unlucky in love.

‘Every time that she would break up with a boyfriend, she would deactivate her Facebook account.

Take the ex out of exist

'And when she'd finally muster up the courage to reactivate it, it was like navigating this minefield of these shards of her last relationship, pictures of when she was happy and in love.’

And so Killswitch was created.

But this is not the only app around for heartbroken Bridget types.

Never liked it anyway is a site where you can clear your ex's clutter

Never liked it anyway is a site where injured parties can sell their ex’s unwanted gifts, and offending engagement rings are on sale for as much as $8,000.

And the free Ex-App can block users from receiving calls, emails or texts from the ex, until you can resist temptation on your own.

The apps will narrow down your to do list

Talking of temptation, the Brazilian Ex Lover Blocker app will name and shame you if you give in and call your ex, by automatically publishing a very public Facebook status update telling your friends about your pathetic willpower.

Oh the joys of the digital breakup.
