The film is based on the book Face of an Angel, which was inspired by events surrounding Meredith Kercher’s death in Italy in 2007.

Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito were originally found guilty in 2009, before being acquitted and then reconvicted in a fresh trial.

Amanda returned to America having served almost four years in an Italian prison, before being found guilty in an Italian retrial last week, which she did not attend.

Book author Barbie Latza Nadeau told Grazia:

‘In the film, the main character is not based on Amanda Knox or Meredith, but a fictional character named Thomas, played by Daniel Bruhl.

‘He is a filmmaker who buys the rights of a true crime book from an American journalist. Also starring in it is Kate Beckinsale, playing Simone Ford, a character loosely based on me. Cara Delevigne also has a role playing a character of a young English girl called Melanie. It is daunting, to say the least, to have someone like Kate play a character based on me… and totally surreal watching her.

'The film touches on how journalists covering murder might appear callous and numb to cope with the often-unbearable details of the story they are faced with, and about how outsiders might appear obsessed with a crime they have nothing to do with, all because they feel an injustice.'

What do you think of a film based on a real life murder trial being released so soon after a guilty verdict?
