Adele and husband Simon Konecki made a low key appearance at a vigil being held for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire on Wednesday night.

The singer was said to have 'hugged and comforted' those affected by the tragedy which devastated the 27 storey building in North Kensington, London. Observers said the 29-year-old was 'going around hugging everyone she could' with many sharing pictures and praise for Adele on social media.

Others wrote on Twitter: 'Adele was at #GrenfellTower today supporting those affected by this tragedy. Such a humble & Down-to-earth woman.'

Adele wasn't the only star to offer help and support to the families who saw their homes destroyed and those who have lost or are missing friends and relations. Jamie Oliver offered free food at his nearby restaurant, while many others including Rita Ora encouraged fans and followers to donate clothes and essential items to those left without any belongings.

The cause of the fire and the full effect is not yet known, but sadly it looks unlikely that anyone will now be found alive in the residential block.

London fire chief Dany Cotton told Sky News: 'Tragically now we are not expecting to find anyone else alive. The severity and the heat of the fire would mean it is an absolute miracle for anyone to be left alive.'

Rest centre for those concerned about friends and family: there is a special centre at Salvation Army, 205 Portobello Road, W11 1LU. The Salvation Army is open until 11pm.

Kensington Leisure Centre remains closed to the public as it is being used as a rest stop and staging area to support the emergency services and the local community.
