Emma Place, 39, a teacher at Clapham Terrace Community Primary School, Leamington Spa, was about to drink her coffee when another student told her what had happened.

Police were called to the scene when Emma realised her drink had in fact been laced with a ‘strong, bleach-like substance’.

The 10-year-old boys, who allegedly call themselves ‘The Mafia’, are worryingly thought to have drawn up a ‘hitlist’ of six teacher’s names.

This news comes just days after the tragedy at Corpus Christi Catholic College in Leeds, where 61-year-old teacher Ann Maguire was allegedly stabbed to death by student.

A source told The Sun: “This has shocked everybody. Nobody expected it. We have been told that the pupils concerned have been dealt with by police and social services.

“Emma was understandably very shocked by this – although she is now fine. She is a lovely and popular teacher. You can’t understand why anyone would want to target her.”

A parent of a pupil who attends the school told the newspaper: “A small gang had formed calling themselves ‘The Mafia’. They had apparently written down a list of six teachers.”

Although the age of criminal responsibility in England and Wales is 10-years-old, the boys have not been prosecuted.

Phillip Robbins, the school’s chair of governors, said: “We are just interested in protecting the interests of the teacher and the family.

“The police are involved and we just want to draw a line under it. Emma dealt with it well. Of course the school is giving her support. The school has dealt with the situation appropriately and we are hoping to move on.

“Neither the school nor teacher are pressing charges. The pupils were not arrested as far as I’m aware.”
