A rose by any other name would smell as sweet - or would it?
According to new research from dating app Happn, your name could make you seem more attractive to the opposite sex.
Or, conversely, a lot less attractive.
Eep.
After conducting some research amongst Londoners looking for love, they found that a woman named SARAH is far likely to receive messages from would-be online suitors than, say, a Gertrude.

Did your name make the list?
If so, we imagine you’re doing something a little bit like this right now…
And, if it’s not, we’re sorry; don’t let it dissuade you from signing up to an online dating site.
After all, your profile picture will also have a big impact on people too.
Match.com advise the following when it comes to picking out the perfect profile picture.
How to pick the perfect profile picture for your online dating profile
-
Choose a headshot that clearly shows your face smiling and in a flattering light (natural light is best), plus one full-length shot and another that shows you doing something you enjoy such as surfing or snowboarding.
-
Make sure makeup is subtle, or as you would normally wear it
-
Make sure you’re wearing an outfit you would usually wear
-
Make sure the photo isn’t one of you shying away under a hat, huge sunglasses or a scarf which hides your face
-
ALWAYS choose a recent photograph
-
Don’t Photoshop your picture
-
Avoid selfies
-
Frame it properly, and leave space round the edges of the photo rather than have your face take up the entire space
As it turns out, it’s not just women who get judged by their names (and their photos!) whilst online dating.
Yup, you guessed it; we also tend to make a snap judgement about a guy based on how attractive his name is.
