Only ever engage in anal sex (or any sex for that matter) if you are 100% into it. Never let pressure from a partner make you feel like you need to do something you’re not comfortable with.

If you and your partner are keen to try what can be an extremely enjoyable and pleasurable sex move then read ahead. Everything you need to know is right here!

How should we prepare?

One of the main concerns for women over anal sex is hygiene -or even worse, an accidental bowel movement. This is always going to be a risk, but your other half (if they’re any good at biology or generally knowing how the human anatomy works) will already know this.

If you are anxious about this, then its worthwhile investing in a douche. A quick shower beforehand and you’re good to go.

Will it hurt?

Many women find anal sex painful, and it can be uncomfortable at first. Think of the first time you had vaginal sex- it took a a bit of time before it started to feel good right?

The trick is to take it slow- no over eager thrusting going on, okay?! Many women find that once the head (the widest part) of the penis is taken care of then it should be slightly easier from them on.

Ann Summers tells us: “Go slowly: Relax, take your time and don’t be afraid to stop if it’s not working for you”.

You can also prepare yourself with some anal beads. Introduce anal play into your sex life with a string of anal beads and starting with the smallest one insert them into your back passage. This gets you used to the feeling and gets all those nerve endings standing to attention.

Also important is finding a good lubricant. Ann Summers recommends purchasing a special lube for anal pleasure. They say: “Anal lube is thicker and gives more ‘cushioning’ than standard lube for comfortable penetration.”

What position should we use?

You can make anal sex more comfortable for yourself by picking your positions wisely. If you’re trying anal for the first time then it's probably wiser for you to be on top . This enables you to control the movement more easily, meaning you can slow down if its becoming painful at all.

Once you feel more comfortable with the sensations and start to enjoy it, switch up to other sex positions, but remember to let your partner know if their pace is too fast for you.

How do we go back to ‘regular’ sex?

If you want to jump between vaginal and anal within the same sex session, make sure you wear a different condom for each one.

Even if you’re on the pill and in a long term relationship, it is still recommended that your partner wears a condom due to bacteria that lives inside your anus.

What about afterwards?

You will probably feel like you need to use the toilet after you (and your partner) finish, so it's worthwhile to pay a trip to the loo following your piece of back door action. You also might have a bit of air stuck up ‘there’ which you might not want to get rid of in front of your significant other. Sexy, right?

Here's everything you need!
