Hen party ideas: Chloe Madeley’s ‘zen-do’ plans

First of all, who doesn't love Sex and the City? So if your bride is a big fan, this could go down well. Get your cosmos at the ready and assign every hen a different character to embody. Carrie's can go for extravagant head-pieces and (fake?) Manolo Blahniks. Charlottes can be sweet, prim and proper, Mirandas would be business-like with a wild side...and Samanthas, well we'll leave that up to your imagination. Decorations-wise, go for black and pink and think cupcakes, cocktails and pink fluffy feather boas. It's bound to go down a treat.

Sleepover chic is perfect for a hen party at home, spa weekend, or if you're opting for a good old-fashioned slumber party. Slip into some fancy PJs and accessorise with eye masks and cute slippers. Lots of fairylights, bunting and candles will make you feel nice and cosy, and you can even crack out the classic sleepover games like spin the bottle.

An LBD is a timeless classic, just like your bride to be. So what better way to celebrate than with this stylish theme? It also probably means you won't all have to buy something new, as most gals have a staple LBD in the cupboard. To make things a little more glam, consider upgrading to a Breakfast at Tiffany's theme, complete with pearls, gloves and sunglasses.

If you're after a more alternative theme, consider a tuxedo hen party. You all dress in full tuxedos, complete with (colourful) bowties, so the bride will be only one in white. It looks and feels very chic, and you don't have to splash out on a full tux, black trousers and a white shirt will do. Just make sure you bring a novelty bowtie. This elegant bash would ideally be accompanied by bottomless Prosecco, and cocktails like Negronis, White Russians and Oldfashioneds.

If your bride is a vintage lover, she'll jump at the chance to wear a 1950s dress with rouge lips and maybe a bow (or two) here and there. For this to work well, she'll wear a white dress with black/red/pink polka dots and the rest of you can wear different coloured swing dresses in a similar 50s style. Hair scarves and pearls are great accessories, and you could host in a speak-easy setting with dim lighting and candles. Maybe make your own retro cocktails too.

Pastels is a gorgeous theme for a hen party, as you really can go all out. You all come dressed in the classic colours (maybe allocate first to make sure you don't all come in pale pink), serve mini pastel macaroons, pastel coloured cupcakes and decorate with bunting and balloons in light blue, pink and yellow. You could even incorporate games into the theme, like Pictionary with pastel crayons. TOP TIP - If the bride-to-be happens to be pregnant, you could stick to either pink or blue, depending on whether she's having a little boy or a girl.

Compile a list of all your fave wedding films and divide your hens into teams. Each team will pick out a the name of a wedding film from a hat and have to act it out for the other team to guess. As a prize, you could even buy some of the DVDs for the winning team... Our faves include My Big, Fat Greek Wedding, Bridesmaids, Four Weddings and a Funeral and of course...Sex and The City: The Movie. You could always give away wedding-themed DVDs such as Bride Wars and The Wedding Planner as prizes.

Pulp Friction? Sugar Daddy? Bachelorette Bash? Topless? In true naughty hen do style, this game really is a bit of fun. Divide everyone up in small groups and read out a prepared list of names. Everyone has to guess if they are nail polish names or the titles of ahem adult films. The team to get the most right wins. We suggest a cheekily named bottle of nail polish as a prize.

This is probably our favourite game so far. In the spirit of naughtiness, print a large picture of a 'hunk' – it could be the groom, could be a celeb crush of the bride's or literally any generic hunk you can get your hands on (not literally). The premise is very similar to pin the tail on the donkey...you all take it in turns to pin some swimming trunks on the hunk whilst blindfolded. But of course, you could always pin something else on instead, use your imagination.

This game involves a bit of preparation, as you will have to provide players with a tin of plasticine or Play-Doh each. Then all you do is set the timer and get moulding. Each hen will have to design a different part of the man's body, but they're not allowed to see what each other are making. At the end it's the bride's job to put it all together to make her man. It's the best kind of team-work.

Split the hens into two or more teams and ask them to create beautiful wedding dresses from rolls of toilet paper. It's possible, trust us... Just provide them with plenty of sticky tape, glue, safety pins and get one woman on each team to model. The bride will then pick the best dress. If you want to make this game even more fun, Amazon have toilet paper in some spectacular colours. A flower crown is a lovely accessory for a hen party bag, and will give you all that festival feeling, bringing out all the fun. You can make them if you have a garden with flowers in bloom (pick some daisies and buy cheap bunches of daffodils), or of course buy some online in different colours. But of course, the bride's should be super special.

No hen party bag is complete without little pots of glitter, to give you all that extra sparkle. But make sure you get biodegradable glitter so you're saving the environment too.

Drop in one of these in every party bag, with a fun fact about another hen written on it. If the party includes a few women who don't know each other very well, this is the perfect icebreaker. It's a great way to get everyone talking and having fun.

Paper straws in all different colours are a great little addition to fill up your bags, as they'll always come in handy. Give each hen a selection of colours and patterns. Happy slurping.

London has plenty of famous spots for afternoon tea, including Sketch, The Dorchester and Claridge's. It's of course a quintessentially British celebration to have in the capital city, but you can jazz things up by finding options with a fancy French twist or some boozy bubbles. You can even enjoy your tea on a classic big red bus - could that BE any more London?

You have your pick of some of the best clubs, cocktail bars and pubs in the country - nae, WORLD. Make the most out of it by reserving a space in one of the city's hotspots. You can also book cocktail making classes in one of the bars, really turn the heat up by going to a strip show, or let your hair down at a drag show.

Who doesn't LOVE a night out in the West End? There are so many old favourites (hello, Mamma Mia) and hot new shows (Aladdin, for the Disney geeks out there) to book tickets for. Singing, dancing, clapping, cheering, crying - it will be a night never to forget.

Whether it's steadily cruising down Regent's Canal in a barge, or hitting the Thames for a big party in a schmancy boat - enjoying a few proseccos while out at water is super idyllic during the summer months in London. Just keep your fingers crossed for good British weather.

Some of the tallest buildings in London offer incredible panoramic views of the city, with a serving of gorgeous cocktails and top-notch meals in their fancy restaurants. The Shard, 20 Fenchurch Street, OXO Tower and The Gherkin should all be on your list. Make sure you book in advance.

Get away from it ALL by taking the gang to a country retreat. Perhaps you can head to The Lake District, The Cotswolds or the Scottish Highlands. Or, go further afield by venturing to a chateaux in the French countryside. You can all chip in for a gorgeous, big house/mansion/CASTLE, and order a supermarket shop of goodies to be delivered on your arrival. Score extra points by making sure there's a hot tub.

What adrenaline pumping activity has the bride always wanted to try in the great outdoors? Hiking? Surfing? Paint-balling? Kayaking? Bungee-jumping? Abseiling? Decide on something that everyone will enjoy (not everybody will truly enjoy a six day hike, after all). Even if the most outdoorsy thing you're prepared to do is 'glamping', it's still something a little bit different and more exciting than the norm.

If everyone's up for it, just go right head and book flights to somewhere super hot and sunny. The Canary Islands are scorching hot all year round, and you can always find good deals. Or the Greek Islands, Ibiza, Croatia, Cyprus and Portugal are other European beach destinations that don't have to be costly if you're trying to budget for the group.

Who doesn't want to be treated to endless massages and walk around in a fluffy white dressing gown while sipping gin and tonics all day? Go for the ultimate indulgence by booking a spa package for the girls. It's the best way to eliminate pre-wedding nerves, so consider it if the hen party takes place near the big day.

Summer wedding? Well why not sort out a yurt for the hens to stay in at a festival, either in the UK or somewhere abroad? It means you get to see some of your favourite bands AND celebrate your pal's impending nuptials.

What is a hen party without the obligatory hen party sashes? Make sure the bride has a super standout special one.

Every bride has to wear a veil, even if it's not necessarily her big day just yet. You can order these really cheaply online, or make one yourself with some netting.

Time to put your wordsmithery skills to the test by picking out a slogan to print on the hen party t shirts. Struggling to think of something witty? A simple 'insert name hen do' will do the trick. Make sure you get enough made for the whole group.

Rabbit and bear ears seem to be the choice du jour, but pretty much anything that you can push back on your head should do the trick.

Linda Carter's wedding in EastEnders was a FINE example of how to do balloons at a hen do. Basically, just get loads (including an 'L' learner plate one in there somewhere) and make sure has a big, special one all to herself.

We are confident in assuming that most hens will suffer with a sore head after a night of celebrations. A hangover kit will be much appreciated if you include: paracetamol, tea bags and/or coffee, various chocolate bars, some mints and a small bottle of fresh juice.

As a little something for everyone to take home as a memento of the hen do, a personalised mini prosecco bottle is a cute idea.

Fill cute bags with small bottles and samples of beauty products, like body lotions, scrubs, scents and makeup. You could even throw a scented candle in there for good measure.

Photo frames or photo albums are a great idea for treasuring pictures from the hen night. Make sure everyone shares the photos with each other online afterwards, so that people can pick out their favourites and get them printed out.

Chocolate ALWAYS goes down well (although check for any vegans in the group), especially after a heavy weekend. Give guests a box to take home and cuddle up with on the sofa for a hungover Sunday night in front of the TV.
