Sex shouldn't be text book – it's all about having fun and getting to know your other half in different ways, and using a toy with each other is the perfect way to do this.

Dr Christian Jessen insists that, by experimenting with each other in the bedroom, you break down the barriers which make it hard to talk about certain things – including sex.

He said: "Sex toys can take you to new levels of sexual pleasure. For most women, orgasm isn't easily achievable. But with toys, orgasms become more frequent, and they can also become more intense and pleasurable.

"Sex toys get you talking, fantasising and connecting with your partner on a physical and emotional level. The best way to improve your sex life and your sexual pleasure is to talk openly and honestly about your needs and desires, and sex toys can play a big role in getting that conversation started and helping to break down barriers and taboos."

Ann Summers new range Cheap Thrills includes items that start from £3, so there really is something for everyone.

And if you're not quite brave enough to talk about toys with your partner yet – they're put together recipe cards to help you plan a cosy night in or naughty weekend away.
