As an anti-inflammatory, aspirin can be applied directly to the skin in order to reduce the size and redness of spots. Crush 1-2 aspirins up, then add them to 2-3 parts water. You should be left with a gritty paste, which you can apply to the affected area with a Q-tip of your finger. Leave the paste on the skin for about 15 minutes, then remove with a damp cotton pad. Do not leave the aspirin too long on the skin.3 of 20

Aloe is actually better for use at the healing end of the spot cycle. So if you've had a pimple which is on it's way out, but perhaps the skin is broken and struggling to heal up properly, a little aloe vera gel applied each morning and night will work wonders and has been know to cut healing time in half.4 of 20

Some people find that swimming in chlorinated water helps clear up their skin, while others find it can enrage it. The jury is out on this one, but we've found that our skin is never better than when we're living by a pool.5 of 20

Honey is a natural antiseptic, so it's a great acne treatment. It also has anti-inflammatory properties so it can reduce unsightly swelling and redness, making the spot easier to cover.6 of 20

If you've ever been forced to eat raw garlic when you're getting sick - you'll know it's an at-home remedy for coughs and colds due to its antibacterial properties. For this reason you can also put it on your skin to treat spots but BE CAREFUL. If you leave the garlic on too long, it has been reported to leave a mark on the skin, which will take longer than the spot to fade. Our advice is, test some crushed up garlic on the spot for just five minutes at first and from this judge how much your skin can take. Sufferers have also reported taking raw garlic internally (about five cloves a day) and seeing a massive improvement in their skin. Although, you might have to sacrifice how nice you smellu20267 of 20

One of the oldest treatments for acne is soothing tea tree. The best way is to get a pure tea tree oil from a pharmacy or health food store, and apply directly to the pimple using a cotton bud. You can also make your own tea tree face wash by mixing the oil with water.8 of 20

You may have noticed that Paw Paw ointment has been everywhere for the past couple of years, and papaya, where it comes from, is a great remedy for sore skin. Mash up some papaya and apply directly to the face, leave for ten mins, then rinse. It has an exfoliating quality which will help unblock pores and prevent them getting infected.9 of 20

Baking Soda makes a great at home exfoliator if you're strapped for cash, and has mild anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which can reduce the size of spots. HOWEVER. Baking soda can be very drying, so we recommend treading carefully if you have sensitive skin. Perhaps use a very diluted amount on the skin at first and build up from there if you think the skin can handle it.10 of 20

Like Aloe Vera, this technique is best for spots that are closed over, but hanging around and perhaps still darker than the rest of their skin. Because lemon can naturally lighten the skin, you can help reduce marks/scars by dipping a q tip in a lemon wedge, then leaving the juice on the skin for about 30 minutes. Wash the face thoroughly after, and be mindful about going in the sun after - as it can exacerbate the lightening effect. Don't use it on open lesions either, as this will sting something awful.11 of 20
