Using actress Emily Atack as her model, make up expert Hayley Sparkles shows us how to achieve a flawless complexion with the right tools.

1.) The Powder Brush

This is for, you guessed it, placing powder on top of your foundation to set it. This will ensure your cover up stays on all day and doesn’t slip off in the heat. You should dab the tip of the brush into the loose powder and lightly brush across the face. But interestingly. make up artist Hayley Sparkles explains you can also use this brush for a really light, natural look with liquid foundation.

2.) The Mushroom (or Kabuki) Brush

You’ve probably seen this described before as a blusher brush, but actually it’s great for applying powder and foundation on the go. Keep it in your handbag to allow you to touch up when you’re out and about. Use in small circular motions for the best effect.

3.) The Bronzer Brush

Soft and rounded, this brush is perfect for applying bronzer to the areas of your face that need it - usually the hair line, underneath the cheek bones and under the jaw. This brush has tightly packed bristles to allow some precision when applying, while still being soft and gentle.

4.) The Blusher Brush

This soft brush is perfect for applying blusher out onto your cheeks. The best way to use is to smile so you can see where the apples of your cheeks are, then brush the colour upwards towards your ear and hairline.

5.) The Fantail Brush

This is what Hayley describes as the ‘finisher’ - it’s perfect for sweeping over areas to blend or remove excess product, and is also an excellent highlighter tool.
