Despite the fact that one in ten mothers will be affected by postnatal depression, it is a condition which is rarely spoken about.
That’s why this moving video, created by filmmaker and mother Jill Krause, is so important.
Featuring real-life mums, the short film sees brave women speak about their own experiences of postnatal depression and postpartum anxiety - and how they overcame their problems to become ‘warrior mums’.
“I wish that people understood that we’re not crazy, weak, horrible people,” one mum revealed emotionally.
Another added: "I really wanted to act out this anger on inanimate objects and my husband and it was such a weird feeling.
"My stomach always felt like when you miss a step when you're going down the stairs, that's how I felt all the time."
Watch the video for yourself below:
“I would want my children to know that I’m sorry that it was like that for that period of that time. it wasn’t their fault that I wasn’t the mum they deserved,” said one tearfully.
“I want them to know that it doesn’t mean I love them less,” added another.
The mothers featured in the video all went on to get professional help.
“You will get better,” one mother says powerfully.
“You will feel better. You feel right now that you’re going to feel like this for the rest of your life, but it does get better.”
Speaking about making the video, Jill, who suffered with postnatal depression herself, told Buzzfeed: "I knew this would be a powerful experience before I started, but I was surprised by how truly honoured I felt listening to these women."
