There seems to be something of a theme regarding religious names, doesn’t there?
Sasha Miller, International Managing Editor of BabyCentre, also pointed out that many parents are inspired by all things international when it comes to naming their sons.
She said: “There is a clear international theme to parents’ boy name choices this year. Mums and dads are hoping for the luck of the Irish, with Aiden up 26 places to 27 – taking inspiration from Poldark’s Aidan Turner, Michael up 17 places to 39, Connor up 21 places to number 56 and Ryan climbing 33 places to 16 – perhaps a nod to new film star dads (and mums’ favourites) Ryans Gosling and Reynolds.
“American parents’ top picks also fared well in the UK this year, with US number one Jackson up 34 places to 42 in the UK chart. Logan (up one place), Jayden (up six), Caleb (rising two) and Harvey (jumping 11) all made gains and Harley broke into the top 100.
“With Muhammad holding on to the top spot, other Arabic and Asian boys’ names continue to rise. Ali and Omar – both new to the top 100 in 2014 – climbed a further 19 and 10 places this year respectively. Aarav is up 13 at 86 and Ahmad and Ayaan are new to the top 100 for 2015.”
