When it comes to the Internet, nothing shocks us anymore.

But one surprising image has been doing the rounds on Instagram, and most viewers aren't a fan.

The picture shows a tiny baby's fingernails that have been grown long and shaped to be pointed.

The account @Daily_earthpix shared the picture, which has almost 35k likes, with the caption, "Cute or not?"

The general consensus was that it wasn't cute at all, and many concerned followers voiced their opinion on the image.

"Not it is so dangerous," one wrote, while another added, "Totally disgusting."

"No," another said. "Because nails that long can seriously hurt a baby. That is a danger hazard for the baby".

Guidelines for new parents claim that their baby's fingernails should be cut down to avoid any scratches or unnecessary injuries.

Mothercare claim it's necessary, with their website offering advice to new mums.

"Babies' nails grow surprisingly fast, and because they've been growing in the womb, some are even born with long, scratchy claws," their sitesays.

"Sooner or later, cutting baby nails is necessary to make sure they don't scratch themselves at night.

"At first, you may find you need to trim fingernails more than once a week, while slower-growing toenails need a snip a couple of times a month."

While the image was shared on the user's Instagram account, the person who took it remains unknown.
