Scientists at the University of Cambridge have released startling new findings that claim the time of year a baby is born determines their future health and happiness.
The reports, published in medical journal Heliyon, found that little girls born in the summer tend to grown up healthier than babies born during other seasons.
After studying the development of 450,000 men and women in the UK, they also discovered that girls born in the June, July and August were also more likely to be taller and enter puberty later.
Scientists suspect that the increased amount of sunlight (therefore absorbing Vitamin D, crucial for helping the body absorb calcium and grow strong bones) during summer months causes summer babies to have a bit more of a jump start compared to their peers.
Despite the findings, lead report author Dr John Perry said: “We need to understand [the] mechanisms [of the patterns identified in the study] before our findings can be translated into health benefits.”
This means that scientists must make further enquiries into the findings before truly knowing how being a summer baby can boost your health.
So, bearing in mind summer babies are conceived in autumn, Halloween could soon become one of the friskiest times of the year for those trying to start families!
