Closer went to Surrey to try cold water swimming, a Finnish sauna and stunning walks through nature at this fantastic hideaway

The hotel boasts five pools including a sizeable outdoor pool within a courtyard

Nestled in the stunning Surrey countryside, Foxhills Club & Resort has a beautiful stately home within 400 acres of pretty greenery and two championship golf courses. There’s plenty to do whether you’re looking for a romantic couples' retreat or you’ve got kids in tow.

The facilities – both indoors and outdoors – were incredible and the highlight of our stay. You can enjoy a modern gym, yoga cabin, five swimming pools, 11 tennis courts and a health spa. Despite being winter when we visited, we were able to enjoy many of the outdoor facilities and it was glorious to relax in the hot tub and try out the cold, natural swimming pool whilst being surrounded by the beautiful gardens.

The natural swimming pool at Foxhills was freezing but invigorating for the soul!

Trying out the chemical-free natural pool was a first but definitely rejuvenating, despite the chill! To warm up, you could take a dip in the hot tub and there was also an outdoor Finnish sauna, complete with outdoor shower.

The indoor pool was sizeable complete with a jacuzzi, another sauna next to it and steam room, where you’re likely to bump into the professional golfers training on the 18-hole course, adjacent to the spa.

Our room was spacious, homely and very comfortable - we were even greeted with welcome strawberries, fudge and a bottle of wine. We loved the super luxe bathroom where you can have a bubble bath to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. Our bedroom was situated on a sweet, cobbled courtyard, two minutes from the spa…handy!

The resort is perfect for foodie couples, who love a bit of fine dining. You can visit either the award-winning The Fox restaurant or the more casual Nineteen brasserie. Cocktail hour was at the Manor Lounge Fox bar, inside the main house, where you can treat yourself to a cheeky gin and tonic or anything off the substantial drinks menu.

Watch out, it's cocktail o'clock!

There’s a roaring fire and views of the rolling countryside from your armchair. What a treat! We also enjoyed the superb three-course dinner at The Fox Dining Rooms – the food was so rich and delicious, we could barely get to the dessert! The wide-ranging menu includes pork belly, roast guinea fowl and salt baked celeriac. The menu also included the calories by each option, in case you’re trying to be good (don’t do it!) The staff were so friendly at the resort, they made you feel so relaxed and at home.

There are more than 200 activities and adventures to do at the resort, including a wooodland trail to follow as a family. The Pavilion building includes a soft play area, role play high street, a games room and two extra pools for a family swim.

And there’s even an outdoor adventure playground for kids to burn off some energy. And the likes of Thorpe Park, Legoland, Windsor, Mercedes Benz World and RHS Garden Wisley are all less than a 30-minute drive away if you fancy a bit of local exploring.
