T.F. Hodge famously said that “tough love may be tough to give, but it is a necessity of life and assurance of positive growth.”
Or, more simply, “life’s tough, get a helmet.”
It doesn’t matter how much we love our kids, sometimes they drive us up the wall - and, sometimes, we have to give them a little tough love to teach them what’s what.
Which is something 13-year-old Aaron Havisham is now learning.
The feisty teen lied to his mum Estella about doing his homework (not cool) and, when she called him out on it, he was rude to her face.
He even bragged that he was earning his own money (from YouTube, no less) and didn’t need pocket money anymore.
So Estella decided to enrol her boy in the school of life, writing him a note which reads more like a bill.
From rent, to food, to a $30 maid fee if he slacks off when it comes to house chores, it has pretty much everything covered.

“The child is going to have a rude awakening today after the words he exchanged with me last night,” wrote Estella.
“Not only will be [sic] find this on the door, but his mattress stripped, and the toys and clothes that I bought confiscated.
“He will have three options: Buy his own, rent his clothes at $3 a day, or renegotiate his terms of being a child. Mama’s done playing games and being a doormat.”
The note went viral on Facebook, racking up more than 80,000 shares.
And, for those who thought Estella was being a little harsh on her son, she had THIS to add:
“This came down to a 13 year old telling his mother she had no right to enforce certain rules, and had no place to ‘control’ him.
“I made the point to show what life would look like if I was not his ‘parent’, but rather a ‘roommate’. It was a lesson about gratitude and respect from the very beginning.
“Sometimes, you have to lose it all to realise how well you really had it.”
Well, exactly.
