Losing a baby is one of the most terrible things to go through.

But for mothers and fathers of babies who passed away before they had a chance to meet them, the loss can be even more painful.

People grieve in different ways, and there is not one "right" way to let your emotions out. We hope that these poems can ease your heartbreak a little.

1. Precious Little One - Author Unknown

I'm just a precious little one who

Didn't make it there.

I went straight to be with Jesus,

But I'm waiting for you here.

Many dwelling here where I live

Waited years to enter in.

Struggled through a world of sorrow,

A world marred with pain and sin.

Thank you for the life you gave me,

It was brief but don't complain.

I have all Heaven's Glory,

Suffered none of earth's great pain.

Thank you for the name you gave me.

I'd have loved to bring it fame.

But if I'd lingered in earth's shadows,

I would have suffered just the same.

So sweet family - don't you sorrow.

Wipe those tears and chase the gloom.

I went straight to Jesus' arms

From my loving Mother's womb.

2. An Angel Never Dies - Author Unknown

Don't let them say, I wasn't born

That something stopped my heart

I felt each tender squeeze you gave

I've loved you from the start.

Although my body you can't hold,

It doesn't mean I'm gone.

This world was worthy, not, of me

God chose that I move on.

I know the pain that drowns your soul,

What you are forced to face.

You have my word, I'll fill your arms

Someday we will embrace.

You'll hear that it was "meant to be,

God doesn't make mistakes"

But that won't soften your worst blow...

Or make your heart not ache.

I'm watching over all you do,

another child you'll bear.

Believe me when I say to you,

That I am always there.

There will come a time, I promise you

When you will hold my hand,

Stroke my face and kiss my lips

And then you'll understand.

Although, I've never breathed your air,

Or gazed into your eyes...

That doesn't mean I never "was"

An angel never dies.

3. A Million Times - Author Unknown

A million times we've needed you,

A million times we've cried.

If love alone could have saved you,

You never would have died.

If all the world was ours to give,

We would give it yes, and more,

To see you coming up the steps,

And walking through the door.

To hear your voice and see your smile,

To sit and talk a while,

To be with you that same old way,

Would be our fondest day.

A heart of gold stopped beating,

Two smiling eyes closed to rest,

God broke our hearts to prove to us,

He only takes the best.

4. I'll Be There - Author Unknown

Daddy, please don't look so sad,

Mama please don't cry.

Cause I am in the arms of Jesus

And He sings me lullabies.

Please, try not to question God,

Don't think He is unkind.

Don't think He sent me to you,

And then He changed his mind.

You see, I am a special child,

And I'm needed up above.

I'm the special gift you gave Him,

The product of your love.

I'll always be there with you

And watch the sky at night.

Find the brightest star that's gleaming,

That's my halo's brilliant light.

You'll see me in the morning frost,

That mists your window pane.

That's me in the summer showers,

I'll be dancing in the rain.

When you feel a little breeze,

From a gentle wind that blows.

That's me I'll be there,

Planting a kiss on your nose.

When you see a child playing,

And your heart feels a little tug.

That's me I'll be there,

Giving your heart a hug.

So daddy, please don't look so sad,

Mama don't you cry.

I'm in the arms of Jesus,

And He sings me lullabies

From your little angel.

5. Silent Child - Kelly Lancor

My silent child

Our precious baby,

Close to my heart

I'll keep you with me.

An important job

God has for you,

There is love to give,

And work to do.

He needs an angel

Strong but small,

To shine light on many

And give love to all.

Before you go

I give you this,

Half my heart

And one last kiss.

We'll miss you dearly

That we know,

But by God you were chosen,

So to heaven, you must go.

6. Today Was The Day - Author Unknown

Today was the day,

You were looking forward to.

Today was the day

Your dreams should have come true.

Today is the day

Your arms are left bare.

Today is the day

We remember your lost one, so dear.

Today is another day

Where your baby flies free.

Today is another day

Where pain and suffering never can be.

Today is another day

In clouds with angels at play.

Today is a good day

To remember you'll be together again someday.

7. These Are My Footprints - Tamara Barker

These are my footprints,

So perfect and so small.

These tiny footprints,

Never touched the ground at all.

Not one tiny footprint,

For now I have my wings.

These tiny footprints were meant

For other things.

You will hear my tiny footprints,

In the patter of the rain.

Gentle drops like angel's tears,

Of joy and not from pain.

You will see my tiny footprints,

In each butterfly's lazy dance.

I'll let you know I'm with you,

If you just give me a chance.

You will see my tiny footprints,

In the rustle of the leaves.

I will whisper names into the wind,

And call each one that grieves.

Most of all, these tiny footprints,

Are found on mommy's heart.

'Cause even though I'm gone now,

We'll NEVER truly part.

8. Angel Of My Tears - Author Unknown

How do you love a person

Who never got to be?

Or try to envision a face

You never got to see?

How do you mourn the death of one

Who never got to live?

When there's nothing to feel good about

And nothing to forgive?

I love you, my little baby,

My companion of the night.

Wandering through my lonely hours,

Beautiful and bright.

What does it mean to die before

You ever were born?

To live the lovely night of life

And never see the dawn?

Ah! My little baby,

You lived like anyone!

Life's a burst of joy and pain

And then, like yours, it's done.

I love you, my little baby,

Just as if you'd lived for years.

No more, no less, I think of you,

The angel of my tears.

9. Oh Precious, Tiny, Sweet Little One - Author Unknown

Oh precious, tiny, sweet little one

You will always be to me

So perfect, pure, and innocent

Just as you were meant to be.

We dreamed of you and your life

And all that it would be.

We waited and longed for you to come

And join our family.

We never had the chance to play,

To laugh, to rock, to wiggle.

We long to hold you, touch you now,

And listen to you giggle.

I'll always be your mother

He'll always be your dad.

You will always be our child,

The child that we had.

But now you're gone…but yet you're here

We sense you everywhere.

You are our sorrow and our joy,

There's love in every tear.

Just know our love goes deep and strong,

We'll forget you never—

The child we had, but never had,

And yet, will have forever.

10. The Moment You Left Me - Author Unknown

The moment that you left me,

My heart was split in two;

One side was filled with memories;

The other side died with you.

I often lay awake at night

When the world is fast asleep;

And take a walk down memory lane

With tears upon my cheek.

Remembering you is easy,

I do it every day;

But missing you is a heartache

That never goes away.

I hold you tightly within my heart

And there you will remain;

You see life has gone on without you,

But will never be the same.
