FREE SCHOOL HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES: INSPIRING IDEAS TO KEEP THE KIDS BUSY

  1. Make a den, hanging bed sheets from clothes horses and the sofa, before snuggling up inside with books and hot chocolate.

  2. Have an egg and spoon race in the garden or over at the local park - just be sure to hard boil those eggs first!

  3. Climb a hill - and then roll down it!

  4. Go for a picnic; all you need are some sandwiches, a snack, a drink, and a blanket to sit on. You can even have it inside if the weather isn’t playing ball.

  5. Go for a family bike ride.

  6. Make a scrapbook together, using child-safe scissors, pritt sticks, and old magazines.

  7. Dig out your old board games and have an afternoon of indoor family fun; I Spy and a rousing game of charades are just as much fun if you don’t have any boardgames to hand!

  8. Look out some old party clothes and let your kids have fun dressing up; have them put on a fashion show or a play, for extra fun.

  9. Grab a football and head to the park for a kick-around!

  10. Play hide-and-seek or, if there are a lot of you, sardines; this is where ONE person hides, and everyone else searches for them. Once they’ve found them, they have to climb into the hiding place with them, leading to some very tight squeezes - hence the name!

  11. Organise a game of rounders with family and friends.

  12. Set up some paper and paints for your little ones, and have them unleash their creative side.

  13. Go and feed the ducks at your local pond.

  14. Throw an Unbirthday Party, complete with cake, balloons and party games; you can all take turns at blowing out the candles!

  15. Skim stones across a pond.

  16. Play Pooh Sticks at a nearby stream or river; all you have to do is each drop a stick on the upstream side of a bridge, and the one whose stick first appears on the downstream side is the winner!

  17. Go on a walk and see if you can spot some snowdrops or spring crocuses.

  18. Toss a frisbee at your local park.

  19. Write a mini-movie together and film it on your phone; you can watch it later with some popcorn.

  20. Get some felt tips or crayons, pack up some sketchbooks, and go to the park; you can get your little ones to draw what they see!

Make sure everyone's wrapped up though as it's pretty chilly outside. Do you have any activities to add to the list?
