It even has it's own private waterpark.

When it comes to holiday styles, we usually fall into two camps - those who like to explore, complete a bustling itinerary and will not sit still versus those who only want to remain horizontal on a sun lounger accompanied by a good book and a piña colada. Fodele Beach Water Park & Holiday Resort handily bridges the gap between them both, thanks to its private beach, swimming pools and award-winning waterpark all neatly crammed into one family-friendly, five-star resort.

Situated in Crete, just a 30-minute drive from Heraklion International Airport, the resort is a hit with families thanks to its generous price point and plenty of fun activities on offer. In fact, many famous faces have visited Fodele’s Holiday resort including reality star Olivia Bowen, who shared a glowing review with her 3 million followers before adding, ‘Guys, 10/10 for this one. The staff were actually incredible we were just in love with them all so so kind and fun. This is a family hotel MUST ‘👏’

We jumped at the chance to review the resort in September 2024 and here is what we thought…

Where to stay

It was past 1 am when we arrived at Fodele, and despite the late check-in, we couldn’t believe how attentive the staff were. We checked into a ‘seafront’ room which was modern, spacious and boasted the most impressive view of the private beach. Along with a spa-inspired bathroom and generous-sized balcony, the room also included a flat-screen TV, a sofa, a queen-sized bed, air conditioning, and an electric safe. There are 400 guest rooms on site, ranging from double rooms to family suites with private pools. With some rooms situated near the waterpark, there is handily a dedicated - and very cute- train to help you get around the complex with ease.

Where to eat

There is ample choice at Fodele thanks to an array of restaurants, snack bars and an all-you-can-eat buffet. There are also plenty of bars dotted around where you can grab a drink or much-needed cocktail.

The F All Day Restaurant hosts the main buffet which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is full of fresh options and lots to choose from. Expect plenty of Greek salad, meat and fish, plus easy crowdpleasers including pizza, pasta and chips.

The hotel also has two restaurants that guests can book into during their stay, which was a definite highlight of our stay.

A huge selling point of Fodele is how everything you need is conveniently on your doorstep, making your stay as fuss-free and relaxing as possible. A stand-out is easily the waterpark which boasts seven slides and three pools which is a hoot for both adults and children. We loved how the park is within walking distance and is available for Fodele guests only so there was no overcrowding. There are also swimming pools and sunbathing spots and a private beach which offers watersports activities such as paragliding and jet skiing.

We were big fans of the on-site spa which offers a range of relaxing treatments including massages, facials and wraps to help you fully unwind. There is also a gym with plenty of equipment, as well as mini golf, tennis and archery. If you're bringing children, you'll be pleased to know there is a dedicated kids club for ages 4-12.

The verdict

Fodele is the perfect destination for a sun-drenched holiday the whole family will adore. We loved the prime location overlooking the sea, the friendly staff and the luxe apartments that felt spacious and modern. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
