REVEALED: Why parents should never take children to feed bread to the ducks

While many of us can think of nothing more fun than taking our little ones to feed the ducks, families have now been ordered to STOP treating our feather friends to bread.

That's right; folks at the Canal & River Trust have revealed that bread is actually VERY bad for ducks.

Not only does it cause ducklings to become malnourished, but it also can cause older ducks to become too fat to evade predators, not to mention increase the spread of diseases.

Which would mean that, when your kids grow up, there might not be any ducks left for them to feed with their own children.

Throw in the fact that soggy bread leftovers encourages algae and pests, such as rats, and you have a recipe for disaster.

Spokesman Peter Birch said: “Bread’s not great for a duck’s health as it’s nothing like their natural diet so don’t over feed them with large quantities of it.

“Please come and feed the ducks but do it sensibly so your children and future generations can enjoy it too.

“The charity is asking the public to make a few simple changes - try to vary what you give them and swap it for healthier more natural treats like oats, corn, or defrosted frozen peas. And exercise portion control!"

So there we have it, folks; when you next take your little one to feed the ducks, don't pack up all those stale bread crusts.

Instead, take a handful of frozen peas or oats, and enjoy the experience knowing that you're helping to keep our wildlife at its best.

Do you ever take your child to feed the ducks? If so, what do you feed them with?
