Disney fans have been eagerly awaiting the unveiling of sixth Disney Cruise Line ship, The Treasure and Closer flew to New York last month to be one of the first people to step on board. It’s the sister ship to the Disney Wish, which are both now the largest ships in the fleet. The maiden voyage sets sail from Port Canaveral, Florida on 21st December and will embark on 7-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, but we were given a behind the scenes tour and can report it is packed full of amazing treats for any Disney lover!

The Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, will embark on its maiden voyage Dec. 21, 2024, followed by an inaugural season of seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral, Florida. Adventure serves as the architectural and thematic foundation of the ship, in honor of Walt Disney’s legendary passion for travel and exploration. (Kent Phillips, photographer) ©Disney

Come on board!

This new and shiny ship brings lots of firsts for the cruise line including an Adventure theme throughout, an original Broadway style telling of Moana, immersive dining experiences inspired by Pixar’s Coco and Marvel Superheroes, and a new collection of lounges inspired by some of the Disney parks rides including the popular Haunted Mansion.

The Grand Hall will embody the Disney Treasure’s theme of adventure, with statues and décor that call on the gilded palace and wonder of Agrabah from Walt Disney Animation Studios’ classic tale, “Aladdin.” The space will serve as the ship’s most prominent gathering space and will offer its own dedicated entertainment moments and surprises. Guest are treated to a warm welcome as they enter the ship in the Grand Hall and, in true Disney style, every little detail has been thought about from the bronze statue of Jasmine and Aladdin to the hidden Mickey’s in the carpets and the hugest of chandeliers.

Dine in style

Like the other ships in the fleet, the Treasure offers rotational dining for their three main restaurants meaning you get to try them all out. A nice touch is that the servers move with you, so they get to know what you like and dislike and your favourite drinks. They may even share a magic trick or two throughout the week!

Aboard the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the vibrant town of Santa Cecilia awakens at Plaza De Coco, the first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco.” Miguel and his familia take guests on a colorful, music-filled journey that celebrates treasured family memories and togetherness with a festive dinner menu that offers a modern twist on traditional Mexican fare. World of Marvel is a fun and interactive dining experience so you can answer questions and test your superhero knowledge! Don’t forget to sample the marble red bread and save room for the Chocolate Decadence dessert, you will be thanking us later!

The new Plaza de Coco is a themed restaurant and the first within the fleet and offers entertainment dining, with two different live shows on a stage in the center of the restaurant featuring dancing and singing. The Chorizo Street Croquettes are to die for!

The very elegant 1923 is positioned just off Grand Hall is the third restaurant within the rotational dining showcasing lots Walt and Rory’s artwork and Disney history.

There is also a buffet restaurant, quick service dining, room service and two fantastic adults only restaurants.

Let the kids go crazy!

Disney cruise lines are known for their fabulous kids’ clubs, and the Oceaneer’s Club on board the Treasure is no exception. What we loved is that whatever your age you are encouraged to make your entrance into the club from the slide which starts in the Grand Hall – even the adults!

Onboard the Disney Treasure, AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg, Disney Cruise Line’s own attraction at sea, will introduce an all-new storyline to its existing lineup that follows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse on a zany misadventure into an ancient temple. Suspended high above the upper decks, powerful jets will propel two-person ride vehicles through 760 feet of winding tubes, offering breathtaking views of the ocean and the ship below. There is so much to do, from designing and creating their own rollercoaster in the Imagineering Lab, meeting Chewbacca in Star Wars Cargo Bay to painting pictures in Rapunzel’s art studio and designing your own costume in the Marvel Superhero Academy. Your little ones won’t want to leave! Theres older clubs for the teens to hang out and a nursey for the under 3’s.

There are so many positives as to why to book a Disney cruise, but our favourite is that there are Disney characters at everywhere on the ships, and queues tend to be much shorter than in the parks.

Cheers ears!

The Haunted Mansion Parlour bar is the first of its kind in the world and themed around the famous ride in the Disney parks. It offers ghoulish style cocktails, with different special effects happening depending on where you are seated in the bar - so no visit will ever be the same! You may recognise some of the spooky familiar sounds!

Aboard the Disney Treasure, the Haunted Mansion Parlor honors more than five decades of fandom and introduces the world to the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion saga. Guests will enjoy spooktacular, specialty cocktails themed to the classic Disney Parks attraction and its inhabitants, as well as a variety of Haunted Mansion details from around the world. We can recommend the Jungle Juice at the Skippers Society, themed around The Jungle Cruise, and the Periscope Pub is based around the old classic, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and creates the feeling you could be on a submarine and offers an impressive 16 different beers on tap. We were big fans the Watermelon Sour Beer.

The Skat Cat lounge is a slightly fancier piano bar, and a cool place to hang out and listen to live music.

Show time

The entertainment on board is just as epic as you would expect from Disney. AquaMouse is a water coaster adventure on the higher deck, and the Toy Story Splash Zone is great for the little ones!

You will feel like you are watching a show on Broadway, when you experience a live stage show at the Walt Disney Theatre, and the Treasure is home to a brand new spectacular theatrical production of Disney: The Tale of Moana!

“Disney The Tale of Moana” brings Moana’s adventurous tale to life, for the first time on stage, in the Walt Disney Theatre aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure. With set design and music bursting with elements of Pacific Islands culture that inspires the classic coming-of-age tale, this innovative production will immerse audiences in a transformational adventure across land and sea. Guests will experience Moana’s story like never before, showcasing new songs, large scale puppeteering, and innovative special effects. (Kent Phillips, photographer) ©Disney

There’s plenty going on every night whilst you sail, catering for every age, and so much to look forward to from silent discos, new Disney film releases at the cinema and the famous deck parties! Fireworks at sea take place on the upper deck, and this is the only cruise ship to offer these biodegradable fireworks, which are safe for marine life.

Rest up

The ship sleeps 4000 passengers with a variety of very comfortable Aladdin themed accommodation. Regular state rooms sleep up to five, with separate bathroom areas which is handy for families and the option of drop-down bunkbeds or a pull-out couch. The Tomorrow Tower Suite is very fancy and in the funnel of the ship, it has an Epcot theme throughout.

There is no better feeling than waking up and catching your first glimpse of Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, in the morning!

The luxurious accommodations aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure, strike an inviting balance between modern design and nostalgic charm with custom artwork of heartwarming Disney adventures. Offering plenty of storage, a queen-size bed, pull-down bed, convertible couch and upscale amenities, the Disney Treasure staterooms serves as a restful haven where families can take time to relax. (Kent Phillips, photographer) ©Disney

Adults only please!

If you thought Disney cruise ships were just for kids, then think again, as the adult only areas have so much to keep you busy. The Quiet Cove Deck caters for over 18’s only, offering infinity pools, Jacuzzi’s, big squishy sunbeds and speciality coffee and cakes.

Make sure to visit the Senses Spa, where the first thing that’ll hit you is the amazing smell as you enter and relax and unwind in the Rainforest—an indoor and outdoor area with heated lounges, fountains, an aromatherapy steam room, a dry sauna and a calming pool and huge comfy swinging sofas.

Adults can indulge in sun-drenched serenity at Quiet Cove, a peaceful refuge dedicated to lounging, sipping and soaking. Set away from the bustle of family activities, this secluded adults-only district features a luxurious infinity pool and poolside bar. (Disney) ©Disney

There’s also a decent-sized gym with a run on treadmill looking out to ocean - just what we need right now!

If you do have the kids with you then drop them off at the kid’s club so you don’t miss out on these adult areas especially the two restaurants, Palo Steakhouse and Enchante, a fabulous French restaurant.
