A dedicated father has decided to get a tattoo matching his sons surgery scar on the side of his head to encourage the boys self-confidence.

Gabriel Marshall's father, Josh Marshall, has gone to extreme lengths to make sure his son doesn't feel insecure about the scar on his head which is a result of brain sugery.

The young boy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2015 called anaplastic astrocytoma. He is thought to have been off treatment for nine months now and is "doing well".

It was revealed in an interview with Buzzfeed that Gabriel had said he felt like a "monster" with the scar on his head - dad Josh later said that "this broke my heart".

He then decided to match his sons scar with an identical tattoo and said "I told him if people want to stare, they could stare at the both of us".

The post, which was not captioned, received a lot of attention with over 13000 likes and people describing the tribute as ‘beautiful’ and ‘awesome’. Users even labelled the father as ‘father of the year’ and ‘a hero’.

It later came to light that the father had entered the ‘Bald dad of the year’ competition and won with 5000 votes.

He took to Facebook to thank everyone that voted for him but remained humble by saying “I would like to thank everyone for helping make this happen it’s an honour to be titled 2016’s ‪#BestBaldDad but the truth is I’m no better than any of the other contestants.

“We are all great father’s that would go to any extent to help our children so in my eyes we’re all winners!

“Hope you all have a great week and a happy father’s day to all you men making a difference in your children’s lives!”
