Sleigh bells ring, are you listening? And, in the lane, snow is (in all fairness, probably not) glistening.
So, yes, Christmas Eve has definitely got some magic to it.
But, while most of us are busy wrapping up those last-minute gifts, enjoying a mulled wine in front of the telly, smiling at the excited face of little children, or sitting in the twinkly lights of our Christmas trees, there’s another reason Christmas Eve is magical.
And we think it has something to do with all those marriage proposals.
Yup, experts at Chillisauce.co.uk have revealed that there are more marriage proposals on 24th December than any other day of year.
But how did Christmas Eve beat Valentine’s Day to the title of Annual Proposal Day?
Well, according to those men and women polled in the UK survey, it had a little something to do with the festive magic in the air - and a lot to do with the convenience of a) already having the family around to celebrate, and b) not interrupting with plans on Christmas Day.
Lauren Troughton, from Chillisauce.co.uk, explained: "Our annual survey offers an exclusive insight into the changing trends and preferences of marriage proposals across the UK.
"Christmas Eve is a magical time of year and what a wonderful way to start celebrations. After speaking to so many couples who got engaged on Christmas Eve we have come to learn it’s so popular, not just because of everyone’s family being around, but because it doesn’t then interrupt Christmas Day plans.
She added: "Our busiest months for organising stag and hen events for our customers is between January to March, with most going out in the Summer before the wedding, so we thought it would make sense that so many people are asking one of the most important questions of their lives over Christmas.
"Over the years, Sparkly ring pictures uploaded to social media have become an expected staple of Christmas, along with the turkey and the crackers!"
Hmm... how romantic.
Meanwhile data released by Facebook reveals that Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve are the most popular time for users to update their relationship status to engaged.
Facebook’s update read: “There are 2.6 million people who changed their status to engaged in the US last year on Facebook.
“The median age at engagement on Facebook is 24, and the most popular days for popping the question were Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Valentine’s Day.
“The most popular months to get engaged were November and December.”
Would you enjoy a wintry proposal? Or would you prefer to break with tradition?
