NOMINATION TERMS AND CONDITIONS for Closer Magazine’s “Dad of the Year 2016” Competition (the “Competition”)

These terms should be read with our general competition terms which also apply to this competition.



a. Provided they fulfil the selection criteria, you can nominate any inspirational dad that you think deserves to be recognised for all their hard work.

b. Nomination is free of charge but you cannot nominate yourself and may only nominate one person.

c) You (the “Entrant”) should submit your nomination by posting a comment with an explanation (on Closer’s Facebook Page: about why you think your Nominee deserves to win the Prize (further details are below). You can also send your nomination via a private message to Closer’s Facebook account or e-mail it to us at:

d) Entrants need to have obtained the permission of the person they are nominating in order to submit their nomination. Please check with the person you are nominating first to see if he is happy to be tagged in a public post on Facebook and contacted by us (via e-mail or Facebook).

e) It is also your responsibility to obtain permission from the Nominee to include in your nomination any photographs and/ or video clips featuring the Nominee.

f) The nominations will be judged on the basis of which Nominees have, in the view of the “Closer Team” (comprised of Closer employees), gone that “extra mile” and demonstrated to be an inspirational fatherly figure. 10 Nominees will be shortlisted and announced on Closer’s website ( after 5pm Monday on 13th June 2016.

g) g. Prior to announcing the shortlist, we will contact, via Facebook or e-mail each of the shortlisted Nominees. This is to confirm that they are happy to have been nominated and for their details and or/ photographs to be featured on our website. We will only shortlist those Nominees who respond to us by 2pm on Monday 13th June. The shortlisted Nominees who fail to respond will be disqualified.

h) From Monday 13th June 2016, members of the public will then be able to vote, via Closer’s website for which of the shortlisted Nominees they think should win.

i) There will be 1 winner and this will be the Nominee who receives the most votes via our website.


a) Nominations can be submitted by posting an explanation about why you think your Nominee deserves to win the Prize on our Facebook Page.

b) Voting will be available via Polldaddy on our website.

c) Online voting and nominations via social media are free.


a) Starting Date for submitting Nominations is: 5pm on 1st June 2016

b) Closing Date for submitting Nominations is: 2pm on 8th June 2016.

c) Nominations (and votes) received before the Start Date or after the Closing Date will be invalid.

d) The name and the home town of the winner will be announced on 19th June 2016 on our website and on our Facebook page.


a) Selection criteria:

i. Entrants will need a Facebook page to take part in the Competition

ii. Nominees cannot be famous, a celebrity or someone who is generally known publicly or who has a public persona;

iii. Nominees don’t have to be biological fathers and can be anyone who the Entrant considers to have played an important fatherly/ parental role.

iv. Nominees and persons placing the nomination (the “Entrant”) must be UK residents aged 18 years or over on date of entry;

v. Nominees and Entrants must not be employees or live in the same household as an employee of Bauer Media or any other company involved in this Competition.

vi. Nominees must not have previous criminal convictions or have any criminal charges issued against them.


a) a. The winner will receive the following “Prize”: one-year subscription to Henry J Socks, men’s fragrance from Fragrance Direct, an Oxo coffee maker, one £15 voucher for, one £40 voucher for, two Grooming products from Big Boys, Wash bag from Alphabet Bags and Big daddy Beer Gift set from St Austell’s Brewery.

b) We may announce additional Prizes after the Starting Date and these will be clearly communicated via our Facebook page and/or website.

c) We are not responsible for the quality of the Prizes, nor its fitness for any particular purpose. Such liability rests with the relevant manufacturer or supplier. Prizes are non-transferable, non-refundable and no cash alternative will be offered. Each aspect of the Prize may be subject to certain terms and conditions such as being restricted to certain dates and times. Please make sure you check the terms of each Prize.

d) If the winner does not agree to the terms and conditions governing this Competition, they will forfeit the Prizes.


Names, email addresses, and /or telephone numbers will be collected and used to process entries. Winner’s details may be given to the prize providers to arrange delivery of the Prize. Your details may remain stored after the End Date but will not be used for marketing unless you have ticked an opt-in box on entry. By entering this Competition, you are consenting to our use of your entry both to publicise this Competition, our title and any other title which we own or control. This means that we may use all names, images, descriptions, photographs video footage, and other information, which you’ve submitted on entry, in any media, without paying you and without any time restriction. You will also have waived any moral rights or right to payment that you may have had.


a) Entries that don’t comply with these terms won’t be accepted and you may be disqualified if we think you’ve breached them.

b) If there is a dispute about the operation of the Competition or validity of any nominations submitted, our decision is final and no discussion will be entered into on this subject.

c) We may cancel / amend / end / suspend the Competition if we need to do so due to circumstances outside our control.

d) We may remove your post/ comment from our Facebook page if: (i) it contains any offensive, discriminatory, harmful or derogatory language or is otherwise deemed to be unsuitable; or (ii) if it transpires to us that you have not obtained the Nominee’s permission to: nominate them, use photographs and/or video clips of them;

e) As far as it is lawful to do so we exclude our liability for any losses suffered in connection with the Competition / the Prize.

f) This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Facebook and Facebook will have no liability to any Entrant to this Competition.

VOTING RULES for Closer Magazine’s “Dad of the Year 2016” competition (the “Competition”)

  1. There are 3 categories to vote for:

a. Inspirational Dad;

b. Best Celeb Dad; and

c. Best Blogger Dad.

  1. Voting for the Inspirational Dad initially starts on our Facebook page and requires you to “Like” the post which describes and Tags the person which you think is the most Inspirational Dad. The 5 people that receive the highest number of Facebook Likes will be shortlisted and announced on Closer’s website on 8th June 2016.
  1. On 1st June 2016, the shortlists for the Best Celeb Dad and Best Blogger Dad will be listed on our website here and you can place a vote for the person in each category that you think should win.
  1. Voting for the Inspirational Dad will open on 8th June 2016.
  1. Closing date for placing votes (for all categories) is midnight on 16th June 2016 and votes made after this date or before 1st June 2016 will be discounted.
  1. Voting is free of charge.
  1. Only one vote per person, per category is permitted.
  1. You cannot vote for yourself.
  1. Setting up “fake” email addresses and/or social media pages to circumvent the one vote per person, per category rule is strictly prohibited and we reserve the right to disqualify all votes that we reasonably believe have been generated fraudulently (including through the use of forums or by automated means).
  1. Votes which we suspect have been made in breach of these rules will not be counted.
