How did he / you propose?
He proposed by the lake at Secret Garden Party 2012 with a golden hula hoop (I love hula hooping). It was in front of all my friends who were dressed like cats and the sun was shining. We designed the engagement ring and wedding ring together and got someone to make it.
What was your main aim when planning your wedding? How did you want it to feel / look?
I wanted something that reflected our personalities – I didn't want a bog-standard wedding. I wanted it to stand out. I basically just wanted a big party with our nearest and dearests.
What was the theme – and why did you choose it?
The colour gold, as it's my favourite. And we asked guests to wear hats – the more adventurous the better. There was actually a prize for the best hat.
How did you choose your dress?
I knew I wanted a gold dress, so I went shopping for gold material, then got a friend of a friend to make it for me. It was more red carpet than bridal, but I love the dress and could potentially wear it again if I had a decent do to go to!
What did you serve for food / drinks?
We're both vegan, so we had vegan South Indian curry, then a local pizza company served up Vegan pizzas at about 11pm. We also had a vegan cupcake mountain.
What do you think made your wedding unique?
We basically didn't do what you're meant to do. He wore red, I wore gold, we walked down the aisle together, then had a massive party in an undiscovered Hackney venue that a friend of a friend lives in. It was basically like a big old house. We had a photo booth, lottery tickets as wedding favours and a buffet meal of non-traditional, vegan wedding foods.
What song did you play for your first dance?
Rudimental – Feel The Love.
What was the best part of the day?
All of it – I loved it all! We had such a fun party.
What are your top tips for brides planning their weddings?
Don't mention it's a wedding when you're booking things – if you say it's a birthday, they won't ramp up the cost or add that extra zero. Also, it really is as stressful as you make it. Don't become stressed out about a wedding because everyone other bride get stressed – you CAN be a chilled-out bride. It is possible!
