At the time she admitted using the weight she lost following the charity walk, as a springboard to continuing a healthier lifestyle.
She revealed:
"I started to lose weight on that [desert trek]. When I came back, I had all these horrible mouth ulcers. I stopped counting at 30 and I couldn't really eat a lot.
"They took a long time to go away. I used it as a kick-start to get back into shape.
"Since then, I've been eating healthier and doing exercise.
"I think my metabolism has changed, which has really helped.
"I've got so much energy. Before, I was getting home at weekends and slumping into an armchair. Now I want to go out in the garden, for walks or for a cycle."
The Daybreak presenter, who was then voted eighth in an online poll for the hottest over-50s, said at the time:
"I don't weigh myself. But I must have lost over a stone because I've gone from a size 14 to a 10.”

Now the 53-year-old has opened up to an English magazine about her trick to maintaining a healthy weight.
“I don’t deny myself anything,” she told the magazine.
“If I want a bit of chocolate I’ll have it, but I won’t eat the whole bar like I would in the past.”
The mother-of-one admitted that her relationship with food has changed, adding that when it comes to food cravings:
“It’s not something I wake up and struggle with.”
As well as moderating her food intake, whilst not denying herself anything, she also ensures she exercises regularly.
Speaking about her fitness regime, she revealed that her mentality towards exercise has also changed, and she has managed to stick to a fitness regime she designed for herself two years ago.

“I go to Pilates. You don’t think you’re doing anything when you’re exercising, but if you’re doing it properly, it’s blinking hard work,” she told the magazine.
“When I’m at home in Scotland, my exercise tends to be going for long walks with the dog. I walk everywhere in London, too.”
Lorraine, who has previously stated that life begins at 50, revealed that she has never felt better, adding:
“Since I’ve turned 50, I’m more interested in clothes and I think that went in hand with the weight loss.”[
