What would you do if, after a night spent trick or treating this Halloween, your child came home in tears, clutching an empty bag and a note which calls them obese?
Yup, over in the USA, a woman has taken it upon herself to tackle America's child obesity epidemic. How? By choosing to only give candy out to trick or treating children that she thinks are thin.
And those she deems "moderately obese"? Well, they get to go home with a note for their parents, demanding that Mum and Dad STOP allowing their children to be obese.
As if that weren't enough, the woman also decided to email her letter to local radio station Y-94, to spread her message further.
Check out the letter in full:
Happy Halloween and Happy Holidays Neighbor!
You are probably wondering why your child had this note: have you ever heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child?"" I am disappointed in "the village" of Fargo Moorhead. West Fargo.
Your child is, in my opinion, moderately obese, and should not be consuming sugar and treats to the extent of some children this Halloween season.
My hope is that you will step up as a parent and ration candy this Halloween and not allow your child to continue these unhealthy eating habits.
Thank You.
We imagine this judgemental letter would go down a smidgeon sweeter if it wasn't so poorly written - has the woman never heard of punctuation?
During a phone call with the same radio station, the woman explained why she's doing what she's doing:
"I just want to send a message to the parents of kids that are really overweight... I think it's just really irresponsible of parents to send them out looking for free candy just 'cause all the other kids are doing it."
Unsurprisingly, parents are very upset. And we're not sure we blame them; it must be awful to, as a child, be bullied over your weight by a complete stranger. And an adult stranger at that!
How would you respond to this woman if you ever received such a note? Do you think she's right to call parents' attention to the weight of their children? Let us know via the Comments Box below, stat.
