The Alcatel 1010, which they’re marketing as the world’s cheapest, doesn’t require customers to top up a minimum amount when buying the phone, like a lot of other cheaper models.

Claire McAuley, a mobile phone buyer at Asda, said: “A quarter of mums are budgeting more than ever and our customers are always looking for news ways to save money.”

You can’t download the latest apps on the phone but you can make and receive calls and texts. It’s available exclusively on T-Mobile, and comes with an MP3 player, a radio and 3GB of memory.

Claire said: “We’ve launched the lowest priced phone as a solution to keeping in touch at the lowest cost possible this Christmas and are expecting shoppers of all ages to snap them off the shelves.”

The phone weighs the same as Apple’s latest iPhone 5s and comes in black, deep red and fascinating red.

PrePayMania.co.uk were previously selling the Alcatel One touch 232 for £1, but customers had to purchase it with £10 worth of credit.
