Last week we announced our partnership with Barclaycard’s Freedom Rewards credit card, which is designed to reward you for how you spend. We’ll be bringing you money saving tips and savvy shopping techniques, alongside exclusive competitions.

This week we talk to TV presenter Andrea McLean about her shopping habits and she tells us why she just can’t resist a bargain…

Have you always been a bargain hunter?

Yes, when I was a student, I wanted to brighten up my bedroom on a budget, so I bought lots of postcards to decorate the walls. It hardly cost anything, but it completely changed the room!

But now, if I see something a little bit expensive, I view it as an investment. It has to be a classic, not fashionable or trendy, but something I’ll get loads of use out of.

Do you use loyalty cards?

Yes, I really need a bigger purse to fit them all in! I let the points build up until I go and do a big shop, then I’ll use them to knock a bit off the cost.

What do you like about being a bargain hunter?

You get a great sense of satisfaction knowing you’ve got something at a discounted price.

Which shopping tribe are you?
Which shopping tribe are you?

According to new research from Barclaycard’s Freedom Rewards credit card, all of us fit into one of four modern shopping ‘tribes’.

Andrea fits into the ‘Bargain Hunter Gatherer’ tribe, but which tribe are you?

The Bargain Hunter Gatherer: This tribe uses voucher codes to make their money work harder, has a purse full of loyalty cards and are experts at spotting ways to save cash.

**The Screen Saver: You’ll find them online, shopping from the comfort of their sofa, or even their bed. **

The Profit Prophet: This forward-thinking, list-loving shopper has their purchases planned right up until Christmas! They are super-organised, buying and hoarding bargains as and when they spot them.

The High-Street Pounder: You’ll find this savvy-saver literally pounding the streets to find the best buys. The High-Street Pounder gets a buzz from haggling their way to a bargain.
