Mel Watts writes the blog The Modern Mumma, and says her blog “visits the shady areas of co-parenting, young mothering and doing the best you can for your family”.
And one of her more recent posts has had quite the reaction across the internet.
Posting the blog to her Facebook page, Mel bravely opened up about her struggles with having children.
She wrote:
“I write this from a very raw part of my heart. The other night I lay there crying for unknown reasons [okay, maybe not unknown - the utero was having it's monthly party] as I tried to go to sleep.
“He was snoring his busy week away and I was wide awake thinking of all the things we used to do. How different we use to be. I was mad at him for changing. I was mad at myself for changing. It is no ones fault. Its just a moment in our life where I can say - it's not all roses and handcuffs.”
The Modern Mumma went on to explain how the couple no longer have “long date nights, sleep-ins and surprise weekends away” because of their children.
She continues:
“Children are hard work. They do put a damper on things. Some people may be able to keep their shit together but some people, like us, we find it hard to balance.
“The children have become the number one priority and at some point we need to learn to put our relationship towards the top of that priority list. I think in time it will become that way again. You have to make it past these difficult times to get there. It's not that its even difficult, its just different. And sometimes different is really hard.”
But despite all of these things that Mel misses about her relationship with her husband prior to having kids, the blogger explains how this is now “another chapter” in their lives – and she’s still very much in love with her significant other.
Mel ends her post by telling her readers that you shouldn’t compare yourself to how you used to be, and that change is actually OK.
“If someone asked me today “Did your relationship change over time?” I would answer - Yes. Nothing is going to be easy forever. Nothing is going to stay the same. And thats okay. Life is all about the change. It’s about becoming together and staying together during the good, the ugly and the children,” she revealed.
And the mummy blogger received a lot of praise for her honest opinion, too.
One user commented: “Love this glad their are other people out there and it's just not me.”
“I love this!!! Every word is so true, and it's exactly how I've felt. How I've been feeling,” another added.
One said: “This is so so beautiful and I completely 100% agree.”
It seems that Mel has written a post that a lot of mum’s could relate to, and her post has been shared almost 2000 times, with almost as many comments from parents praising her honesty.
