The photograph, which was first shared on 8th January, first appeared on the Facebook page of Breastfeeding Mama Talk.

The page aims to educate women about breastfeeding, as well as encourage them to share their photos.

However this particular image has sparked outrage online.

In the photograph, we can see a young topless boy smiling as he pretends to breastfeed his younger sibling.

It was captioned simply as: “Don’t worry mum, I’ve got you covered.”

The image, which Breastfeeding Mama Talk posted because they found it funny, has since been shared over 15,211 times, generating 1.9K comments.

But, while many of these were positive, many parents were outraged by the family snapshot, slamming it as ‘sick’ and ‘pornographic’.

Your kid might be breastfed when...

One wrote: “That is sick child pornographic... those children need to be taken away from the parents and the photographer arrested.”

Another added: “I’m all for breastfeeding but there needs to be a line drawn. This world is crazy at it is.

“This is how there is such thing as ‘gender confusion’ now... where is his father? I wouldn't think that he would be okay with this.”

And one said: “Ewww - why is everyone posting photos of their half naked kids playing with their nipples?

“That's sick. Almost as disgusting as people who do breastfeeding feed in public.”

However, despite the backlash, other mums have leapt in to defend the image from critics.

As well as sharing their own photos of their little ones ‘breastfeeding’ babies and dollies, they also called out those posting negative comments for having ‘twisted’ minds.

One wrote: “How bloody absolutely ridiculous to waste precious time on such nonsense.

“Seriously people, tackle a real issue if you need to invest your time in someone else's business - go volunteer.”

Another added: “There is absolutely nothing pornographic about this. So what if the kid has his shirt off? So do millions of others at the pools or beaches.

“Get a grip and do something useful instead of looking for nonsense.”

They added scathingly: “And whoever says that it is sick is an idiot or has no kids of their own; kids always imitate what they see.”
