Nik and Eva Speakman are supporting our Where's Your Head At campaign

We caught up with therapists Nik and Eva Speakman at This Morning Live who told us their best piece of advice they would give to someone struggling with their mental health.

The pair are infamously known for helping people overcome their crippling fear; over the years we've seen the Speakmans help people with fears of ice, sponges, animals and they even helped Holly Willoughby overcome her fear of flying.

Now the pair have revealed the one thing they do every day that they've encouraged other people to do, especially after overcoming a battle with their mental health.

Nik explained: "If you've been through a situation and you've come out the other side, the one thing you've got to do is practice gratitude.

"The human brain is not designed to make us happy, it's sole purpose is survival so it will do everything it can to protect us.

"Many people's issues come from that over protection but once you've got through that you've got to start practicing being happy because it's a skill."

He went on to say: "One thing Eva and I do every morning to set ourselves up for the day is when the alarm goes off, I hit the snooze button and for the time it takes for the alarm to come back on again I practice gratitude.

"I've got seven minutes and by the time the seven minutes is finished I'm grateful for 50 things in my life."

Eva went on to add: "Mental health and physical health are the same. You can't go to the gym once, eat one healthy meal and expect to be fit and healthy. You have to keep going to the gym and keep eating healthy.

"Good mental health is exactly the same. You can't underestimate the power of doing little things everyday to help promote good mental health."
