Following the outbreak of coronavirus TV shows have had to stop filming and festivals have been cancelled but Strictly Come Dancing bosses have said the show will still air later this year.

BBC's controller of programming, Dan McGolphin, confirmed that the show will return to our TV screens around its usual time in the autumn.

He explained, "It wouldn't be the same if we didn't have Strictly in the autumn, would it?"

"So no, of course the BBC is doing everything it can, and I know that everyone involved in that production team would absolutely love that to happen this autumn.

"We've really just got to keep watching the government advice, thinking about what's possible. And if there's any way of bringing Strictly back this autumn, then we absolutely will. That's very much our intentions, so yeah, fingers crossed," he told BBC Essex.

While Strictly plans to go ahead with returning, EastEnders bosses were forced to cancel filming following COVID-19.

As a result of the pause in filming, BBC changed the soaps usual schedule on TV and it'll now air on Mondays and Tuesdays.

"In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on EastEnders will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update," they explained in a statement.

"We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and Public Health England.

"We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two, so that we can ensure the audience can continue to enjoy EastEnders in their homes for as long as possible."
