Strictly Come Dancing was almost thrown into chaos for professional dancer Brendan Cole today after he was forced to rush to hospital with a lung infection.

Twinkle-toed Brendan, who is appearing on the BBC show with singer Anastacia, thanked NHS doctors and nurses for treating him in the early hours of this morning.

He wrote on Twitter in a series of posts: "#NHS Docs, nurses & staff are phenomenal. Thank you for looking after me in the wee hours. Lung infection now under control so thank you.

"…had to take myself to A&E as I couldn’t breathe very well so not enough oxygen getting through. Incredible care, cannot thank enough #NHS."

Brendan has been cleared to dance this evening but admits he may be "coughing and spluttering" during the his rumba with his pop star dance partner.

He tweeted: "…all fine for tonight though. Might just be a little coughing and spluttering during our rumba! #Strictly."

This is not the first time Brendan and Anastasia have faced problems this series - the musician tore scare tissue from a double mastectomy she had in 2013 and had to sit out the bottom two dance-off during week two of the competition.

Meanwhile, it’s been claimed their low positions on the leaderboard have caused bickering between the pair.

A source told The Sun: "They’ve had to tweak all their dance moves because of her injuries - they can’t even do any lifts or sudden turns.

"His previous partners like Natasha Kaplinsky and Kirsty Gallagher have dealt with his outbursts, but Anastasia doesn’t take any crap and fights back.

"But both are determined to make their relationship work on the dance floor and move up that table."

However, Anastasia insists she is having a great time on the show, telling MailOnline: "I am having a blast with Brendan and I feel so lucky that I got partnered with him.

"I am very excited about what we are doing this week, just you wait and see!"
