This year's series of Strictly Come Dancing has definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster - with COVID-19 in the background. But with the final approaching it seemed things were going to pan out. That was until an injury threatened one contestant's ability to participate in this weekend's final.

TV presenter AJ Odudu seemed to be in a good position approaching the series final, scoring her first perfect 40 for a quickstep during last Saturday's semi-final. She was all set to compete with her partner Kai Widdrington against EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis and TV chef and former Bake Off winner John Whaite this weekend for the famous glitter ball trophy.

Sadly this has been thrown into disarray following an injury she sustained in rehearsals for the show.

AJ shared the news in an Instagram post, in which she is pictured in crutches. In the caption of the post she explained how she had got a repeated traumatic impact injury on her right ankle.

She explained how this injury is "affecting the joint, capsule and ligaments themselves."

The TV presenter admitted she "can't pinpoint a moment it actually happened during training but the pain came on suddenly on Monday night."

She went on to say, "The pain was so acute that I projectile vomited and currently I can't put any weight on my right foot without agonising discomfort."

Poor Aj, we hope she gets better soon.

As a result of this injury AJ and Kai have been unable to practice this week, putting them at a real disadvantage going into the final this weekend. Honestly, this injury could not have come at a worse time for the pair.

In spite of this injury, AJ is still planning to compete in the final. At the end of the post she wrote, "Whilst it's not the week I had planned I'm trying to remain hopeful and positive.

"I'm surrounded by a fantastic medical team who are trying their best to get me back on my feet PLUS, I have the most incredible partner @kaiwidd who is carrying me emotionally and physically (literally)."

Fingers crossed that AJ and Kai can end the competition on a high despite this horrible injury.
