First it was Friends, now the long-awaited Sex And The City reunion is officially under way. Last week, Sarah Jessica Parker, 56, shared a sneak peek of the intitial table read-through from the hotly anticipated show reboot, and revealed she was both “thrilled and terrified” about filming.

Taking to Instagram, the star, who plays Carrie Bradshaw, released a picture of herself against the New York skyline with castmates Cynthia Nixon (Miranda), 55, and Kristin Davis (Charlotte), 56, captioning the shot, “Together again”.

But with one original cast member missing, SATC fans flooded the post, commenting on Kim Cattrall’s notable absence after she refused to reprise the role of Samantha.

From the cast shake-up to wardrobe dramas, here’s what you can expect from SATC spin-off series, And Just Like That…

The girls reunite - without Samantha

The fallout between Kim Cattrall and her co-stars has been well-documented – with Kim stating in 2019 that she would not reprise her role

as Samantha. And last week, as the girls were posting snapshots of their SATC reunion, Kim, 64, had a very different agenda.

She shared a smiling image of herself on Instagram with the hashtag #gonefishing – and fans inundated her post expressing sadness that Kim won’t be in And Just Like That.

Back in January, when the series was confirmed, Kim admitted on Twitter that she’d had “quite a week” and liked a Tweet from a fan that read, “I applaud doing what is best for you and putting yourself first.”

The actress played sexually liberated PR guru Samantha Jones, but had a tense friendship with SJP. In 2018, when Kim’s brother died, SJP offered condolences – but Kim called her out on Instagram, “You are not my friend. So stop exploiting our tragedy in order to restore your ‘nice girl’ persona.”

And SJP responded by saying, “I have never uttered an unkind, unsupportive, unfriendly word [about Kim].”

In a 2019 interview, Kim said, “After the second movie, I’d had enough. I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t replace me with another actress instead of bullying. No means no."

Will there be less sex in the city?

With the lusty and promiscuous Samantha now missing from the cast, the series is ditching its famous name that propelled it through six seasons and two movies.

The reboot’s title, taken from one of narrator Carrie Bradshaw’s classic sayings, is now And Just Like That.

With the original series airing from 1998 to 2004, the name change also indicates a new direction for the plot, with less emphasis on sex and dating, and more on friendships, with Kristin Davis (aka Charlotte) calling it “the next chapter”.

Costume chaos

In addition to Kim, someone else who won’t be making a comeback in the reboot is iconic costume designer Patricia Field, who created the girls’ iconic outfits and accessories.

Throwing the wardrobe department into chaos, native New Yorker Patricia, 80, confirmed that she wouldn’t be involved in the new series because of a scheduling clash – she’s working on Netflix hit Emily In Paris.

Stepping in to fill her stylish shoes is costume designer Molly Rogers, who Patricia confirmed worked with her on Sex And The City “from start to finish” and “knew it well”.

Meanwhile, Kristin Davis, who plays Charlotte, has been teasing fans with glimpses of the new-look wardrobe and accessories on her Insta stories, saying, “Our wonderful costume team has done an excellent job.”

Sarah Jessica Parker - aka Carrie Bradshaw

Carrie had a weekly column and managed to live in a New York City apartment - the dream. She chased Mr Big around NYC (even though he was trash) and she even cheated on Aidan Shaw with him - rude. The last time we saw Carrie she returned from Abu Dhabi after cheating on hubby Mr Big with Aidan - full circle, tbh.

Sarah Jessica Parker has since starred in The Family Stone, Failure to Launch, Did You Hear About The Morgans and New Year's Eve. She's also starred on Glee, HBO show Divorce and she's produced her own independent drama. She's married to actor Matthew Broderick and they have three children; James and surrogate twins Marion and Tabitha.

Confident, outspoken and sexy AF - Samantha Jones is literally everything we want to be. She stayed away from long-term relationships but went on to fall for Richard Wright however he left her devo when she found him cheating on her. She then went on to date Jerrod and the pair moved to LA however she broke up with him in Sex and the City 2 and moved back to NYC.

Following SATC, Kim went on to continue acting in movies and Broadway productions. In 2018 she tweeted that her brother had gone missing and hours later it came to light that he had died by suicide. After SJP apparently wrote condolences on Kim's Instagram, Kim hit back and claimed Sarah was "exploiting" her brother's death.

Miranda didn't trust men (classic) but after falling for Steve Brady (and having a few ups and downs) she fell pregnant with Brady. The pair co-parented their son and eventually gave in to their feelings and reunited. However, Miranda was left heartbroken during the first Sex and the City movie when Steve cheated. Luckily they made it through their rough patch and she even bagged a new job at a law firm during the second movie.

Cynthia has continued acting and in 2018 she announced she was running for governor. She's since Christine Marinoni. In 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer but she beat it.

Kristin Davis - aka Charlotte York7 of 20

Kristin Davis - aka Charlotte York

The easiest way to describe Charlotte York is as a hopeless romantic. All she wanted was a husband and kids and it appeared that she found that in Trey MacDougal however when she found out he couldn't "get it up" it took a toll on their marriage and they split. She then fell for Harry Goldenblatt who was not her type but they eventually tied the knot and welcomed Lily (through adoption) and Rose into the world.

Following her time in the Sex and the City series, Kristin continued to star in films and TV shows. She's also an ambassador for Oxfam and she adopted her daughter Gemma in 2011 and her son Wilson in 2018.

Chris Noth - aka Big

We had a love/hate relationship with Big because he was Carrie's true love but he was also the ultimate f--kboy. However, when Carrie moved to Paris and was finally ready to forget all about him, he soon changed his tune and they made things work. In the final episode of SATC we finally discovered that his real name was John James Preston.

Chris has continued acting in theatre, TV and film. He's also a co-owner of a New York music venue and a tequila company. He's married to actress Tara Lynn Wilson and they're parents to two sons.

John Corbett - aka Aidan Shaw

Aww Aidan; the one that got away, tbh. We still think Carrie should have stayed with Aidan - he treated her like a queen, built furniture (hashtag handy) and gave her a second chance after she cheated on him. Despite almost making it down the aisle; Aidan moved on, got married and had three children - although he did kiss Carrie in Sex and the City 2.

Harry is definitely the least problematic out of all the Sex and the City characters. He was 100 per cent himself and loved Charlotte despite the fact that she was going through a divorce. He remained faithful and the pair welcomed two daughters into the world.

Evan has continued acting and he's also released his own books and has written for magazines and The Huffington Post. He tied the knot with Elisa Atti in 2003 and four years later they welcomed her daughter Sofia into the world.

Steve and Miranda's relationship started as a one-night stand but they ended up actually dating. It didn't last and the pair split. When Steve discovered he has testicular cancer he ended up sleeping with Miranda and she fell pregnant. They planed to co-parent their son but eventually reunited as a coupe. In the first Sex and the City movie, Steve cheated on Miranda but by the end of the film they got back together.

We always loved Stanford. He was Carrie's BFF and always had her back. He did not get on with Charlotte's pal Anthony but the pair went on to get married in Sex and the City 2.

Anthony was actually Charlotte's wedding planner for her marriage to Trey MacDougal and despite that relationship not working out, Anthony and Charlotte stayed pals. Anthony went on to marry Stanford despite them not getting along for years.

New York and new faces

Earlier this year, SJP confirmed that they wouldn’t be searching for a cast member to “replace” Samantha, saying, “We’re not looking to create a fourth character. We have New York City as a fourth character. There’ll be lots of interesting new characters that we’re excited about.”

And HBO’s Casey Bloys confirmed we can expect to see a more diverse cast in the spin-off, saying, “[The executive producers] didn’t want to tell a story with all-white writers or an all-white cast… It’s not reflective of New York. So they are being very, very conscious about understanding that New York has to reflect the way New York looks today.”

Six new characters are reportedly joining And Just Like That – three of them series regulars who are women of colour. Jennifer Hudson could reprise her 2008 movie role as Louise from St. Louis, playing Carrie’s assistant. When asked about her involvement on Entertainment Tonight, Jennifer said, “I hope so! That would be cool. I’m down.”

Mr Big - and the other boys - return

Their love story has melted hearts around the globe – and now fans will see Big back on screen with Carrie. Chris Noth, 66, returns as Carrie’s John “Mr. Big” Preston, with executive producer Michael Patrick King revealing, “How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex And The City story without our Mr. Big?”

And the leading ladies’ “other halves” have also been confirmed to appear in the new series. We’ll see the return of David Eigenberg who plays Steve Brady, Miranda’s husband, and Evan Handler as lawyer Harry Goldenblatt, Charlotte’s husband. Actor Willie Garson is returning as Carrie’s pal Stanford Blatch, along with his on-screen husband Anthony Marantino, played by Mario Cantone. And John Corbett, 60, who played Carrie’s ex-fiancé, Aidan Shaw, has also confirmed his return in the reboot, telling Page Six, “I’m going to do the show,” adding, “I think I might be in quite a few [episodes].”
