More than seven million viewers tuned in to watch last week’s episode, where Sarah plays Sergeant Catherine Cawood, in what may now be her final episode.
According to insiders, Sarah’s decision to leave the BBC programme means the third series is now in jeopardy, despite scriptwriter Sally Wainwright saying she wants to work on new plotlines.
“It’s the end of the story for Happy Valley. I wouldn’t want it to go to a third series, I really wouldn’t – then it becomes something else,” The Daily Mail revealed Sarah had told a source.
‘The temptation is you see something that is great and you think, ‘This can run and run and run’, but then it becomes a homogenised, diluted thing,” Sarah added.
An insider told the Daily Mail: “There was going to be a long wait before the third series, as there was between series one and two. But without Sarah will there be any point? Without her there is no show.”
Viewers have been raving about Sarah’s performance in the show, including celebrities like Richard E. Grant and Davina McCall:
The road to success has not been easy for Sarah, who opened up about her mental health problems only a few days ago.
Do you think Happy Valley will be the same without Sgt Cawood?
