Given that they spend weeks getting to know each other over sweet treats and consoling each other when their bakes have a soggy bottom, it’s no surprise that romance sometimes blossoms in and out of The Great British Bake Off tent.
However, we’ve been left blindsided by 2022 contestant Rebs Lightbody’s (side note, with a name like that she should seriously be considering joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe post Bake Off) latest social media post which appears to hint that she’s dating one of her fellow bakers. Not least because it means one of the show’s most eligible bachelors is off the market.
That’s right, Rebs - who was forced to miss Bread Week due to "illness" - has dropped a massive hint she’s dating Bake Off fitlord Sandro Farmhouse in news that has left us sobbing into our morning croissant. There goes our dream of Sandro kneading our buns – or us kneading his.
Rebs got tongues wagging when she shared a series of holiday snaps featuring a topless Sandro on Instagram. She also shared another photo of her wearing an oversized shirt on Twitter and captioned the post, “Thanks for the shirt this morning x @thesandrosbakes.”
Naturally, Bake Off fans have gone WILD for the potential romance – with one viewer telling the pair, “You two are beautiful! You would make gorgeous babies! I had to say it!”
However, we don’t think the pair will be starting a family any time soon as it seems that they’re not actually dating despite Rebs’ teasing post sending the rumour mill into overdrive.
According to Rebs’ bio on the official Bake Off website, she’s actually got a boyfriend called Jack and loves incorporating Middle Eastern flavours into her bakes in a nod to his Turkish heritage.
Sandro came out as gay while growing up in east London, as per a profile on Social Ark about his voluntary-led project Beyond The Cakes.
Hella handsome, charitable and can knock out a banging Viccy sponge in next to no time… is there anything Sandro isn’t good at?
Rebs also opened up about missing Bread Week on social media after Paul Hollywood joked that she and Abdul Rehman Sharif, who was also ill, were "pulling a sickie". She tweeted, "Will say it once for the people in the back, I DID NOT want to miss bread week (it was probably my strongest week), I was forced to go home for the safety of all in the tent, I just wanted the world to see my Lahmacun pizza and Mexican style smorgastarta!"
