Three years ago, professional mermaid Linden Wolbert met a young girl named Lauren Cosgrove who was battling a life threatening conditions.
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the show this morning, the little girl explained how the encounter with the mermaid those years ago was the highlight of her life.
The unlikely pair met in 2013 in Loch Lomond in Scotland as a part of a special visit organised by Rays Of Sunshine charity.
“Fighting spirit” Lauren – who was born 27 weeks early and has been battling deadly illnesses since birth, and is now kept alive by artificial nutrition – explained that she still keeps in touch with her ocean-bound idol, as the mermaid likes to check in to see how she is getting on.
But Holly And Phillip had a special surprised planned in for the little fighter, as Linden tuned in to say hi to her brave friend once again.
All the way from California, the mermaid spoke to Lauren through TV satellite, proving she remembered their first encounter well.
"It was chilly for a Californian mermaid but it was so magical being there with Lauren… I was so enchanted by meeting with this lovely little girl,” she told viewers while making sure she stayed hydrated thanks to her water-spraying assistant.
Linden also explained that meeting Lauren was one of the best moments of her life, and when Lauren asked her idol if she had a superpower, she replied:
"My magical power is to make people smile, so I notice that no matter where I go, every time I look at somebody, they smile."
Isn’t that the cutest?
And the duo caused hearts to melt on Twitter, too.
While we found the whole thing adorable, and a lovely gesture towards a little girl who has been through so much, others were a bit miffed by the whole thing:
