Michelle Keegan has quit Our Girl after four series on the show to spend more time with her husband Mark Wright.

Confirming she's leaving the BBC One show, she said, "I’ve had the most incredible four years on the show and I want to thank the BBC for giving me such an amazing opportunity.

"Playing Georgie has been a life changing role for me. I’ve loved every second of the adventure so it was a very hard decision to make not to return."

The former Coronation Street actress - who wants to pursue other acting roles after playing Georgie Lane for the past four years - went on to tell The Sun, "I feel it is the right time to explore other exciting opportunities but I’m so happy to be part of the new series coming soon so it’s not the end just yet."

Michelle is set to leave the show later this year and her decision comes a year after her husband Mark quit his presenting role in America to spend more time with her.

At the time a source told Closer magazine, "Neither of them could stand being apart from each other much longer, and Mark seemed to be suffering more as he was also away from his family who he's very close to.

"He told Michelle that he can't carry on with their marriage like this and that he was going to have to make big changes so they can be together more."

While filming for Our Girl, Michelle spends a lot of time filming abroad at locations such as South Africa, Malaysia and Nepal.

Michelle's decision comes shortly after she shared an 'ageless' photo in the wake of receiving a lot of backlash from her Instagram followers.

The actress shared a snap of herself from a decade ago wearing an Adidas tracksuit and wrote, "You don’t realise how far you’ve come until you look back... ten years apart 💫 Been reppin since day 1! @adidas".

Lots of her followers, including us, couldn't believe her throwback snap was taken ten years ago.

Michelle's photo came shortly after Mark Wright gave us an insight into their New Year's Eve party where she dressed up as Marilyn Monroe.
